Description
Another piece for the portfolio of children's book illustrations I'm working on.See coloring step-by-step here: [link]
My inspiration for this picture is something I have fond memories doing when I was a kid: building forts out of chairs and draped sheets with my cousin and friends. A secret space to tell stories and do kid stuff.
I thought silhouettes through the sheet would make for an interesting picture.

This is adorable
I remember when I used to make bed sheet fortresses with my siblings.
I really like how you made the shadows look through the fabric.

Lovely!
The lighting is amazing, how it's concentrated in the fort with darkness surrounding it makes me think of a beacon, like it's their special place. Also, the little details, like the doll, cups, and bracelet, reminds me of the "essentials" my cousins and I would bring into the fort...you know, the things we considered most important as a kid.
And the snoozing kitty is adorable, like it's hanging out while the kids giggle have fun.
I love children's book illustrations, and this one brought back so many childhood memories! I think I need to build a fort now

I really.. I can appreciate it so much more.. the mood I mean.. from you providing a shot of their giddy little faces beneath the blanket. Like an x-ray into their hearts really. The blanket doesn't even completely cover them, it's just the sheer joy of the idea of a fort and a place just for them at that time.. a really simple, uncomplicated joy!
I'm sure we've all done this at one time or another in our lives. A wonderful touch of childhood!

Oh man, I remember I used to do this with my friends under a colored throw rug. We used to wave flashlights around under it and yell "IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!"
