I volunteer for Carolina Pet Rescue cpr-nc.org/ as the Pet Promotion Specialist which means I take pictures of the adoptable animals that come into the rescue and put them up on the internet so the animals can get adopted!Here's a photo I took of one of the kittens at the rescue.
There are plenty of really great animals out there that need homes! Search for adoptable pets in your area on Petfinder www.petfinder.com or visit your local animal shelter

Cute kitten is cute!
Unfortunately, I don't live in a place where I can properly raise a kitten.
(And I like cats!)
Also of note, in the Tenth Circle of Hell, where I live, the local animal shelters forbid the adoption of any black cats in the month of October.
Something about Satanists committing sacrifices and whatnot.

D'aaaw! If I lived closer to our local SPCA (I don't drive, so it'd have to be within walking/biking distance) I would offer to do that for them. I love taking pictures of kitties and playing with them in the process.
Though I'd probably want to take home all of them. >_>

There might be some rescue groups in your area that you could do volunteer work from home for if you're really interested. For example, most rescue groups have a Facebook presence and they need someone to run that! Also, most rescue groups need someone to keep the Petfinder.com profiles updated. If you're seriously interested, you can go to [link] and type in your zip code or City/State and it will bring up a list of rescue groups in your area. They will usually have an e-mail address listed in their profile, then you can just send them an e-mail explaining that you're interested in volunteering but you don't have transportation so you're looking to see if they have any tasks you could do from home to help them out.
Now, these rescue groups are all run by volunteers that usually have full-time jobs and full-time lives... so most of the time they are often too busy to get back in touch with you. So the more e-mails you send out, the more likely you are to get a response from someone!
And many rescue groups are run out of the houses of volunteers, so maybe you'll even find one that is in walking/biking distance from where you live so you could help out by doing things like socializing the animals (ie playing with them!) and taking pictures!

If I could, I'd give homes to all the furries out there that are all alone. All beings need and deserve to be loved!!!!!
I commend what you do at your job.

Sometimes it's hard... Especially when you have to deal with cases of abuse. And it's not the case with this particular group since they're a no-kill shelter (so don't worry! the cats in these photos are perfectly fine and aren't in any danger of having to be put down!), but when you work with animals in the government run shelters that do euthanize, it can get really difficult when you form attachments to the animals and they end up having to be put down when they can't find homes.
But luckily there are way more happy endings and when you see that the work you do really makes a difference, it's a lot easier to focus on the positive and not dwell on the negative.
