Some Mayan pyramids did have burial chambers for high-ranking officials, but generally in Maya Civilization, the dead were buried in their own homes or in their place of work.  Most of the Mayan temples and pyramids were built to honor the gods.

Interesting, though I would not really enjoy having my family/colleagues buried at home or at work
