What are you talking about?Β Cherno Alpha required 2 Kaiju to take it down.Β Also the reason as to why they were taken down so easily was because the Kaiju all had a hive mind so even if one was killed, what they saw would be shown to their creators and they would build better, stronger Kaiju.Β That's why we lost more Jaegers than we could build.Β They weren't fragile, they were becoming outdated by the Kaiju.Β Remember what Dr. Newton said, "The first wave was just the hounds.Β Categories 1-4, it was nothing.Β Their sole purpose was to head for the populated areas to take out the vermin: us.Β Now the second wave, that is the exterminators and they WILL finish the job."

You only proved my point, that there need to be Jaegers even stronger than Striker Eureka in order to keep up the pace with the kaiju. In comparison to the three fights we see in the film, Jaegers are pretty pathetic. Just a little more brute force, and all of a sudden they crumble. In the context of Kaiju movies in general, the Jaegers are fighting nothing new when compared to the trials of the Megazord, and Voltron, and even Jet Jaguar, but all the Jaegers just prove to be no more than fodder with the exception of Gipsy Danger who only barely survives the fight at all.
That doesn't make the enemies look powerful and threatening, it makes the Jaegers look pathetic. What's a knifehead compared to an enemy that can blow a hole through a mountain? What's an EMP compared to a black hole gun? What's acid compared to assimilation of entire planets? It's pathetic, that's what.
I probably would have believed that the Jaegers were in a tougher fight if they were against more crafty enemies, but they aren't. They're crumbling under pressure, and that's all there is to it.

NO, I didn't prove your point.Β Did you ever hear the phrase, "Know your enemy".Β Humanity didn't know about the Kaiju evolving until the true events of the movie taking place.Β The Kaiju creators were more advanced that we were so it would make sense that they could create monsters with a hive mentality and learn from their mistakes.Β Plus, world leaders thought that since the Jaegers couldn't stop more advanced Kaiju, they pulled the funding and decided to build walls.Β And don't compare the Jaegers to the Megazords, Voltron and Jet Jaguar because they exist in a universe of their own.Β And why compare that stuff to one another.Β That's not even a fair match "Knifehead compared to an enemy that can blow a hole in a mountain?"Β Where'd you pull that from?

My argument is that the Jaegers are kinda pathetic. Your counter argument, as I understand it, boils down to the notion that they're up against more powerful enemies that they know little about.Β
My retort is that I'm not convinced that the enemy is all that stronger and unpredictable. I listed off how powerful and unpredictable giant monsters can get, and Pacific Rim's kaiju are pretty lacking. So if the kaiju are lacking, and they're kicking the tar out of our heroes, what does that say about our heroes?
BTW: Guillermo Del Toro himself confirms that much of Pacific Rim is entirely based off of shows like Voltron and Power Rangers. Striker's Air Missiles are meant to evoke missile-launcher gimmicks of old robot toys, Cherno's extending fists and Gipsy's elbow rockets are meant to have the imagery of the Rocket Punch attack that almost every old robot show has, Knifehead is based off of Guiron from the Gamera series, the list goes on. So yeah, I'd say it's a very fair comparison, because the whole point of Pacific Rim is that it's evoking those memories of giant robots kicking ass.

Before the events of the movie take place, all the people knew was that monsters rose out of The Breach and attacked major metropolitan areas so they made the Jaegers to combat them and things went well until 2020 when Knifehead appeared.Β After Knifehead, is when things got bad.Β The Pan Pacific Corps as well as the rest of the world underestimated their enemy, that is why they were losing.Β
As for Pacific Rim being a way to base something off of Voltron and Power Rangers, that idea is great.Β What makes them different, (I've never seen Voltron) is that they exist in a universe all their own, which you already know, but in Power Rangers, the enemy of each episode had a special ability, and even a few only used their fists so it does kind of fit between linking Power Rangers and Pacific Rim.Β The more advanced enemy's get the cool abilities and each Kaiju was meant to be original.Β As for the lacking of unpredictability, Otachi is about as far from the word as you can get.

Not mediocre pilots.Β It was failing to adapt them when the Kaiju would become more alert and more intelligent.Β The pilots weren't to blame.Β It was the politicians who cut the funding and decided to build walls.

Well most of my made up Kaiju are from Pacific Rim. There are a lot of different Kaiju from there, so you could completely make up your very own.Β

Okay, to everyone who keeps saying that Gipsy should have used her swords keeps forgetting:Β She didn't have that when she was originally built.Β When Mako Mori help rebuild Gipsy, she added the chain swords because her father made them.Β And when asking why Legendary Goji didn't use his Atomic Breath until the climax of the film was because realistically speaking, that move uses up a LOT of Godzilla's energy.Β
Anyway, fantastic piece as well as one of the best crossovers ever.
