Description Godzilla / ゴジラ

ZBrush 4, Photoshop CS4, Vue 8, Photography
Sculpting Approx 40-60 hours, Photoshop works 10-12 hrs

The model used here is the same as used from ([link] ) the one affectionately nicknamed Fatzilla or Lardzilla by some. This presentation is created to give the design a closer look, where as the one in the link is part of my fan art series monster profiles.

The Godzilla character has changed over the years, from being man made disaster to an environmental friendly monster. From an anti hero to saviour of earth. From being creature who became a father figure to becoming a supernatural creature who is brought to life by angered spirits.
His appearance has also changed but he's always retained the distinct mutated heavily scaled dinosaur look with spiky dorsal fins (or spines) and a long powerful tail.
His size has fluctuated over the years from 50m tall to becoming 100m then 55 then back up to 100. His abilities and weaknesses have also varied over time.

As an artist, i took the freedom to design and create my version of this popular Japanese iconic monster, but also keeping the key characteristics that make a Godzilla design.

The design is heavily inspired from the Heisei Godzilla Suit (1990s). It is the Godzilla that i grew up with, as an artist. I admired his size, power, his unique proportions, the super long heavy tail (that constantly moves as if it had its own mind, perhaps its his 2nd brain (GvsMGII)), the facial expressions...The texture and armor is influenced from crocodilians and The Millennium G-Suit (2000), a sea-monster inspired creature design. The anatomical base structure is heavily drawn from theropod fossils, as Godzilla is a dinosaur. I have deliberately chosen to avoid the 'humanoid' rubber dinosaur suit direction that we are all so familiar and accustomed to, which the Japanese are the pioneers and ultimate masters of the daikaiju genre.

As always I appreciate your time and effort taken in leaving any comments and criticisms.

I still have it on my desktop.

I understand. I think it's always a good idea when an artist keeps track of the progress of his/her work. It's better than discarding older versions they no longer see fit. (That's short sighted IMO)

BTW, did you see my emails?

He is so fat. Has it ever Occurred to you that you kind of overdo the bulk on your Godzilla? Because I cannot picture any locomotion beyond a waddle.

Oh yes he is. That was the idea (as a result of mutation). Ive actually trimmed this version down a bit.

Think of Sumo wrestlers. their pretty mobile.

There's not Spoilers in anything that I'm about to say.

The dragon from the latest Hobbit movie; this Godzilla's face reminds me of him.

Nice to see SumoZilla again. I still think that, as far as unique Godzilla designs goes, this is the best one. Still never understood the hate, wouldn't make sense for Godzilla to be massive and powerful looking.

Well, he reminds me of a sumo wrestler, and considering it is a Heisei Godzilla design taken to extremes, it makes sense.

You are welcome

I always think it:s okay for G to be fat. Actually, this one isn't fat, just very bulky
Remember what you say that his everweightness shows hormonal imbalance for mutations. It is better than having a gargantuan leg..

I really like this; I grew up with the 80's goofy Godzilla that was more pal than monster, but as a monster what is (or, at least, should be) unique about Godzilla is that he isn't merely an overgrown lizard or even a fantastical dragon, but the living, breathing (un)natural disaster, an atomic bomb brought to life.  Most designs don't carry that kind of power or menace.  This one comes a whole lot closer than others I've seen.

I do think the tail is a little too thick at the base, and could be ~1/3 shorter.  With proportions you've used, I find that my eyes are drawn to just behind his leg rather than the center of his body.  As for the leg itself, I think it's perfect: it strikes just the right balance between my guy-in-a-suit nostalgia, and a bipedal, atomic saurian.

Thank you for creating this!

I did intend the tail to be super long and have made adjustments to its thickness. Please see 'G Day Mate artwork in my gallery.

First...this ish is so dope!!! if they hadn't already made the film you would have been a great addition to the animation department. Second...i appreciate the shying away from the daikaju portrayal of Godzilla. Im 20 and i grew up on Jurassic Park and The Star Wars Prequels and Godzilla (1998); and just recently Pacific Rim. Not to mention countless other awesome cgi creature/fantasy features. So im kinda spoiled as far as making fictional and prehistoric creatures look real goes. Also wanted to ask why are so many "true Godzilla" fans so against the 98' film...from what i read of the original isn't that how Godzilla was born? former iguana? freak nuclear accident?..Even if it isn't the true story (too lazy and lost in thought to go take a peek at Wikipedia) it sure is a rational explanation for his origins. ( i know i have the potential to be attacked for this statement given the fact that this a fictitious story and his origins can be mysterious and other-worldly). But still it makes sense...besides even as true fans and people who worked on the original 1950-199whatever series don't like the new Godzilla dubbing him zilla and says he looks like a lizard and crap, isn't that what the zilla part in America means...lizzzard..besides "i  myself could be mad at you(whoever created gojira)for it not even looking like what its real or Japanese names is: gojira (gorilla-whale). they know damn well that thing don't look like no gorilla-whale, i'm kinda mad about that. why isn't the entity true to its name? (just ranting i know the name was in relation to its whale size and bipedal gorilla like structure, but still could you please show me what a whale gorilla "really looks like?...because as far as i can see, it  look like a giant lizard with a sea lions face..Ha! It should be called "Seazilla"!!

Thanks for the comment man. i really appreciate it. i am a fan of both real and unreal looking fictional monsters. i guess its something i got use too. when i saw godzilla movies from the 60s and stop motion by ray harryhausen, as a kid, they all looked real to me.

regarding true godzilla history, ive never heard of it being an iguana that was exposed to radioactivity. show me where it says that, im curious, i could be wrong. i know that he was based on dinosaurs like stegosaurus and iguanodon and perhaps a t-rex with amphibious qualities.

i am one of the dissapointed fans regarding Zilla but i still think its a wonderful creature movie. i love the design and the special effects, but growing up with godzilla as an unstoppable juggernaut that breathes atomic rays, it was heartbreaking to see him get killed by f-18s. i didnt like baby zilla either. it went too far to be godzilla, but that is just my honest opinion. i think that Zilla is still justifiable to name. its become seperate creature from godzilla but is still godZILLA, that's why we call it zilla. anyways, have you heard of Godzilla 94? that was the original script for the american version but was rejected. more info: americankaiju.kaijuphile.com/a…

regarding the name Gojira, as in gorilla whale, i think its fair to call it gorilla whale even though it isnt. its like the people who saw sea serpents but theyre actually big fishes and not reptilian. i heard that at the gorilla whale creature was one of the original concepts but changed theyre mind to make it dinosaur. i think Gojira is still a cool name.

if i made a gorilla whale design... i think it will look liek a giant goirlla with a tail of a whale, smoooth streamlined some bumps, no spines like godzilla,  dark coloured like a humpback or gray whale. thatll look awesome.

i do liek the name seazilla. as he is a seamonster.

Why he has a very short arms. How does he gonna punch or attack his opponents apart from his tail and fangs? Anyway love the design!
It's cool because Godzilla doesn't have a large dorsal fins like he usually does.

Thanks for the comment. This is like an alternative universe, where in i kinda veered away from traditional. godzilla will use more his jaws to grab opponents and slam em. no punching but lots of head butting.

hot damn it looks like godzilla transformed into a kaiju dino oozaru form

you know like how saiysns transform into a giant werebeast monkeyape form when they look at a full moon

heres a damn good example of the oozaru transformation but wiht the hadded twist being that goku goes full on super saiyan while in oozaru form

[link]

that has to easily be the single crowning moment of awesome in the entire dragon ball, z, gt trilogy right there as saiyan power up transformations go
