Well I am sorry if I placed this in the wrong category but my main point is to make you all clear of several things.My question to you is this: Is my style the SAME (not similar or kinda) as what we called "spirit style?"
I don't think so. So people can start pointing fingers at my gallery and my characters and my way of drawing. It's very rude and disrespectful when ignorant-close minded people won't even take a minute to figure out what they want to say first, examine the case and then judge. Not only am I targeting this for my own gallery, but for each and one of you, Equine artists, who do have a unique style. I found many of them that have nothing to do with the Spirit style and yet we find people coming to your gallery and say, "You Spirit stealer! You thief! You're going to be reported with Dreamworks!"
First of all Dreamworks can care less for they KNOW they'll have millions of fans, their work is copyrighted so there is no big deal if a 10 year old is using the same style. After all, those beginners use the same style for a few time while they try to learn how to draw and THEN develop their own style.That's how I did it. I drew in Spirit style for a couple or 3 years. Then I started developing my own style.
Now, back to where I started. Does Lib look just like Rain?
Answer that question yourself.
WATCHERS & FRIENDS: Don't take it personal, this is mostly targeted at those people in Youtube. You have no idea how many idiots live there. And if you've been bugged by the same thing, hell, proof to those people that you're also able to develop your own style. ... unless of course...you're one of those people copying/stealing from other Equine artist's style; they don't deserve this. They've worked too damn hard on their artwork so that a fool comes to rip off their gallery.
If there is a thing I hardly can forgive--is not that people steal my art, or copy my characters about 90%--but steal my style. It is NOT fair.
There is a difference between been inspired, and "lemme copy ur art cuz i like it."

I got my own style, I gave up trying to draw spirit style. Making things exact drive me insane. I think the reason people compare spirit with all of our styles is the eyebrows. Giving the horses eyebrows and humanistic eyes. I don't care though, I draw my style anyway.

...I USED to have my own style... then someone decided to steal it, so now I'm stuck with realism. Don't get me wrong, it's good to have experience with it, but I wish I could develop something more unique like your style, its so beautiful

Keep experimenting until you're satisfied with your very own. I can't promise it will take a week or even a month, but for sure you can do it. Be patient

this is an old post. old post is old. BUT! i found it while looking for horse drawing tutorials (huh o.o) and i thought i'd like to comment because, ironically enough, i was watching Spirit just a couple hours ago.
to be honest, i don't know why people get into such a tizzy about it in the first place. Dreamworks if i'm not mistaken released a video/dvd/cd/whatever of a basic tutorial on how to draw Spirit-style horses, so why would they do that if they'd get ticked over someone drawing similarly?
as far as this example goes...it does look loosely based off Spirit (the eyebrows, muzzles, lines of muscle, etc.) but your style seems to have more of a chibi sort of thing going on? i don't know if that's the right way to explain it - it seems more based on cuteness than realism, which is perfectly fine.
i noticed you cited Horseland/Mulan/etc. in a previous comment response, and to be honest i find that to be an invalid example unless you directly referenced from that, as Horseland (and i know this very well, having played the game since 2001) and others came out after Spirit. Spirit was released in 2002, whereas the Horseland show (and its fugly cartoons, wtf) was released much later (late 2006-early 2008, somewhere around that time. *is bad at remembering these things*). i would not be surprised if Horseland ripped off of Spirit, anyway.
though this conversation is not based on HL's disturbing disregard for laws! xD in conclusion, i think that there are significant similarities, but at the same time they are so startlingly different that it's hard to believe someone could point a finger and call it copying.
