This is a gift for my aunt. And there is a story behind this picture.

My aunt lives in the wide open country, far away from where I live. And years ago, when I was young she saw a fawn with its mother while she was on a walk. She must have gotten to close because the mother ran off and left the baby all alone. So my aunt went back to the house and watched the baby lay in the grass. She waited for the mother to come but it was so long and the baby was all alone.

So she decided to help. She went down to where it was and picked it up. It didn't fight her at all, it just layed in her arms.

So she took care of that baby for days and days and days. She fed it, cleaned it, and even made it a bed to sleep in.

But her love did not last long. She had a vacation coming up soon and she could not take the fawn with.

My aunt called her most trusted friend and asked her to watch the fawn while she was gone. So her friend said yes. And minutes later she pulled into her driveway.

And my aunt packed the fawns things and placed in the trunk and got a cardboard box with blankets packed in it. She placed it in the box in the front passenger seat and watched her drive away.

On the way driving the fawn got spooked and started running around in the moving car. Until it finally found its way out the window. The driver stopped the car and ran out to the fawn. But she was to late.

The fawn died instantly when it hit the ground. It had a broken leg and broken ribs.

And to this day the fawn was stuffed and is placed in a glass box resting in her living room. It is in a sleeping pose for Rest In Peace.

So I thought of my aunt and made this drawing of that fawn before it died.

Enjoy

Rest In Peace

This is very beautiful! Such a sad story and I'm glad you drew a happy scene. Both the mother and the fawn look amazing! I love the fur on the fawn's belly. It looks so fuzzy! The only thing I can find are a few things in the background. Now, I'm not saying I'm perfect at backgrounds, because I am not! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title="LOL" /> I just wanna point out just a few things here. The flowers are great, but if there is an option, if the flower brushes let you, perhaps next time don't make them so faded when they are up close. They look a bit like ghost flowers. Another thing is,the butterflies. They kind of take away the reality of the picture. Now, butterflies are great, don't get me wrong, but maye you shouldn't put so many. Also, perhaps they shouldn't be all those neon colors. Like the bright green ones. I think they should be colors of real butterflies that would live where ever these two deer are. Like, maybe you could go in real close and (of course reffing from a photo) trace over them and color them like swallowtails, or monarchs, you know like real butterflies. But all in all, this is great, and keep up the good work!

Wow thanks so much! ^^ And yeah, I blured the flowers so they would look more real, but I blurred them to much...

And the butterflie... I am horrible at monarchs and stuff so I just followed *Equinus 's tutorial on them.

No prob! Yeah, monarchs are hard! I need to practice them too! I've only tried them once, and they were really far away!

i raised a fawn, but it didnt turn out this way.

I'll try to dig up a picture for you but i believe they were all lost when my old laptop crashed.

Her name is Bella (NO not after stupid bella from twilight. i raised bella 3 years before twilight came out. i named her that because Bella is Beautiful i italian and our family is italian)

Bella is now very healthy and 4 years old. last year she brought two beautiful twins into my yard to visit and let me get close, thought the fawns weren't used to me, so they were timid.

bella visits on occasion, but i no longer go up to pet her as there are many hunters and such in the back, and she would be easy pickings for a hunter if she was super-tame. also she is the largest of 60 does in our woods, because she was hand reared. she would be a fine kill for a hunter, so her ear is tagged with a bright orange marker, this warns the hunters not to get 'er.

beautiful background.

Awww how sweet.

I wish I could get that close to some.

I do have a story about deer though.

I was at my aunts house (The same aunt with the baby deer) And I was out by the horses in the back pasture. And in her field I saw two baby deer come running in playing with each other.

So I came closer to get a better look and they looked at me, but then continued playing. And I came about 10 feet away from them and they stopped playing. And the one looked at me and cam up to me. So I was so excited now and I inched closer. But then mother stepped out from the woods and grunted at me. The fawns stopped and ran to her side and the mother kept grunting, so I ran back to the horses. And when I turned back the fawns were starring at me! O.o The did not stop until I was inside the house.

The liked me! LOL

hahah.

i think that some fawns just dont know any better. they haven't learned not to trust humans yet so they were just investigating. i've had several close encounters like that with bella's siblings and from her other years offspring.

she's not a pet. i've slowly made her quite feral again. i no-longer pet her, but she does visit daily. just to graze.
