Description
Pheonix 1 is the primary armoured train of "The Valkyries" aerial legion. Used during peace time as a luxery conveyance for Commander De Theudebert, it's weapons muzzled and cargo stowed. In war time it provides command and control of ground operations, routinely deployed to provide heavy weapon cover for the Valkyries air dropped paratroopers.
The train consists of the following.
2x Duel Ground/Air Support Platforms. Consisting of a turret with a 2 pounder cannon to engage ground targets, and a revolving turret containing 4 0.303 in (7.7 mm) Browning machine guns to defend against attack from the air. A Lewis gun provides additional anti infantry firepower.
1x CAT (Catapult Assisted Train) launcher. If the train comes under aerial attack, this rocket powered catapult inclines skyward into the wind and launches an aircraft from the train while it's underway. The train has no means to recover the aircraft afterwards and the pilot must then try and make his way to a friendly airfield or carrier.
1x 4-6-2 Pacific class streamlined and armoured locomotive providing motive power for the train.
1x Vehicle flat car. Used to convey ground vehicles aboard the train. These can range from personnel transports to armoured vehicles.
1x Artillery Support Platform. Armed with one 2 pounder turret with Lewis gun, and one 75mm armed AT turret with additional heavy machine gun. The primary use of this car is to enable the train to engage enemy armoured vehicles and personnel that enter the trains area of operation.
1x Armoured Troop Sleeper Transport Coach. Used to convey a full company of soldiers plus equipment. Equipped with bench seats, flip down bunk beds, a weapons locker, and a small recreational facility. The coach like the rest of the train is heavily armour plated to protect embarked troops.
1x Command Wagon. This armoured coach serves as a luxery conveyance when Louis and his command echelon travel aboard Pheonix 1. Equipped with radar and command and control facilities. As well as luxery sleeping quarters, lounge and weapons storage. However when Louis is not travelling aboard it can be converted to house a full platoon of soldiers. Quad .50cal machine guns provide AA defence, it proving a significant threat to both air and infantry targets

Loving this design- I've always felt the Bullied Air-Smoothed pacific would look good as a military loco (I modelled one as a police liveried train for "Britannia"). This would look great as a miniature thinking about it

I love the Pacifics. So much armoured train art is dedicated to the German/Russian/Polish types I thought i'd have a go at one that was distinctly British!

The only really iconic one that comes to mind is the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch armoured miniature loco I cant think of many other British examples, and you're right, it is mainly the german and russian stuff you see in pics around the net and in books...

Ah yes, I think I recall coming across that a while back. But just didn't have the punchy fortress like visage of say a German Flak Train etc. As a theoretical exercise it was quite fun. Although somewhat limited in practicality and feasibility with regards to stuff like the CAT launcher etc!
