Dominant Dire Day with Dee
Dee stretched, with an audible groan. Feeling the bones crack in all the limbs of her body. She turned to her Golden Dire, and patted her head.
“Bare back riding is a little painful on my end, how about you Alex?” Unfortunately, when not in an animal form, Dee could not understand anything her Tokotas said. But the look on Alex’s face seemed to agree with her. “Yeah, I get it, go take a break. We’ll stay here for the night. It’s not too much longer until sun down anyway.” She looked around them. Her group of Dires were beginning to relax, so she decided to as well. She took a seat on the outer edge of their clearing. Close enough to hear and help out anyone if needed, but also far enough away to not be bothered by an accidental collision.
looking around at her little pack, she’s filled with content, and happiness. Today was the start of a Dire Day Out. Which, actually was going to be more like a week or so. She left Flecker, Holly, and Jokull at home, due to the trio being the most responsible of the bunch. That, and Holly was expecting a litter, so it was best to leave her at home. Flecker, being her mate, didn’t want to leave either. The Speckled Tokota was quite attatched to his larger partner, and wanted to be close to her to help out when needed. Leaving Jokull. Jokull, being the father of Snowcone, had already dealt with the leadership role. He learned how to become a leader, by becoming a parent. While not the most dominant Tokota out there, he still was able to keep control of others when needed. Dee had no doubt he’d be a good Alpha one day. So this was a test. If their home isn’t completely destroyed when she returns, she’ll begin working with him to get him to alpha status.
Loud yips and growls caught her attention. She looked over to see Goth Prince and Coldharbour arguing once again. The two Lilacs seemed to always be upset with each other. Dee wasn’t quite sure what it was, as they are usually very good team Tokos. Just, not with each other it seems. The Dunn Coldharbour snapped at the pied Goth Prince, and he barked in response. It looks like they were having an argument. Discussion? Or possibly a very heated debate. Either way, it wasn’t going well. The Spotted Creed soon stepped in. His large size, and unusually calm demeanor made him a very good mediator. Or at least a distraction. Creed calmly spoke to the two fighting Tokos. Dee wondered what he could be saying? Creed wasn’t much for conversation, and whatever he said seemed to at least calm the two down. Calm enough for Goth Prince to scoff, and make his way down into the water. Possibly to cool off. Knowing that one, he’s probably going to fish. Fishing was a way Goth calmed himself down. Dee recalls hi, saying it’s calm, and peaceful underwater. Coldharbour was similar, but he wants to dive. He wants to explore, and see what’s in the deepest areas of the water. Fearless, and stubborn, Dee wondered what things he’ll bring back when he’s able to Free Dive, not in a pool.
Creed took a spot on a rock to sun himself in the last sun rays of the day. Getting an approving nod from Alex, as she took a dive nearby. Creed seemed pleased with the approval from the Dominant Tokota, that he couldn’t help himself from blushing, and ruffling his fur on instinct. Dee thought it was cute. This Dire was very different in personality from hers, that he would be quite the challenge. She took him in for a friend, Aspen, who didnt have experience with Dires. The Shy Shapeshifter didn’t feel like they had the ability to work with a Dire, and sent Creed over to Dee.
With a Splash, and the sound of disgruntled Dires, Dee sees that Higgs finally made his way to the water. Not much of a talker, this Dire can work. And work he does. He is definitely more of a follower, rather than a leader. This roan Pied dire puts 200$ into each task and activity he’s given, it’s surprising when he fails. While he doesn’t aim to be the best, he aims to do his best. Guessing from his attitude, Dee assumes he’s probably fishing. For who you might ask? The little Golden puff ball following him from the shoreline. Snickerdoodle. New to the group, and very young, this Golden dire is a mystery. Snickerdoodle is a young pup with a blank slate to offer. He has nothing holding him back, and nothing to lose. He seems to be a determined pup so far, but since he’s so young, Dee has not yet figured out how to communicate with him. Higgs however, seems to have figured it out just fine. What others hear as yips, and whines, Higgs is able to figure out that Snickerdoodle is tired and hungry. Higgs has taken over the care taker, or parental role of Dude, as they have bonded the most. Most days, you’ll find Dude following Higgs around, or Higgs trying to teach him some basics of being a Tokota in a Pack. But of course, due to his age, it’s not sticking quite well.
Dee relaxed in the now soft bustling of her pack. The soft splashing of the fishing Tokotas, Alex, Goth, and Higgs, the quiet huffing of Coldharbour, and tail wags of Creed. Even the friendliest Dire there, Snowcone, was relaxing in some peace and quiet. A usually friendly, energetic, and bubbly tundra, this trek seemed to have tired her out. She was calmly basking in the sunlight, on a nice patch of grass. This Tokota is a very person oriented one. She loves being helpful, and loves being around children. Dee would love for her to work in the city, but Snowcone still has to learn that she’s big. And needs to learn how to handle herself around smaller beings. Since coming out of her she’ll, and becoming a part of the Average status of Tokotas, Snowcone has made massive leaps and bonds for her growth. Helpful as always, her and Higgs make a great pair when out doing any task or activity. She, however, should not be left alone. She likes to make friends. To talk, to gossip. She is definitely not one you want to send out for protection. Possibly a good Therapy or Service Dog? Dee wasn’t too sure. That’s not a field she’s too experienced in. And honestly, would rather... not be. Maybe her friend Aspen would be able to help? They are definitely more of the Assistance Tokota type person. Dee made a mental note to ask them about it next time they meet. As much as Dee loves Snowcone, she doesn’t want to hold her back from something she might be really good at.
Low, even woofs get her attention. It’s Alex’s warning call. Staying calm, Higgs and Goth exit the water, while Alex stays, gaze fixed on what caught her attention. Snowcone herds Snickerdoodle towards Creed, who practically sits on the small pup. And Coldharbor scans the area for anyone, or anything else. Dee gets up slowly, and calmly. Acting like nothing is wrong. Whatever it could be, it can’t be alerted. Staying calm, and staying in groups is what’s best.
Once with her pack, she shapeshifter into her animal form. A large cat with a long thin tail, and feathered ears. In this form, she can understand what her pack says, and she can respond back.
“I don’t think they’re trying to stay hidden.” Alex states, as she shakes the water from her fur. “Maybe they’re lost?”
“Either way, it’s best to be prepared.” Dee responds, taking into consideration what her trusted Companion feels. “We are in the middle of the mountains after all Alex. Who knows what’s out here?”
“I can go see? Maybe if they’re lost, I can give them directions?” Snowcone speaks up. Her blue and green Heterochromia eyes sparkling in the evening light. “I can go with. Best to stay in pairs or groups right?” Goth spoke, standing oddly close to Snowcone.
“I don’t think that’s necessary. If they arent lost, and are just minding their own business, we should as well. Others come out here for solitude. We shouldn’t take that away from them. If they need help, they’ll call out, or find us.” Dee states sternly. Snowcone didn’t look upset, and she was glad. Snowcone being an emotional dire made Dee often rethink how she phrased things.
Closer and closer the voices came. Dee could pick out 3. They didn’t seem threatening, but she didn’t want to risk it. Dee and her pack stood still. Focused as a unit on the area the voices were coming from. The adrenaline of the unknown pounding in her chest, Dee found it getting a little difficult to breathe. Closer and closer the voices got, but unable to make out the words. Concern was etched into the faces of her pack mates.
“Dee? Alex? Are you there?” A familiar voice called out. Confused, Dee recognized the voice of Mammoth. Aspen’s newly appointed Alpha. The lilac poked his large head, and long fangs through the bushes to see the sight of Dee’s entire pack, ready to attack. “It’s just me, Eyja and Ice, we need to talk.” The amount of concern on his face startled Dee. Mammoth was usually a calm, and happy dire. Always looking towards the bright side. Beside him, out popped the tiny blue alpha Eyja, with eyes as blue as sapphires, and an albino Dee had never met.
“Let’s talk.” Dee motioned for Alex to Follow, and the rest of her pack dispersed. However, they stayed within ear shot. Dee took a seat, wraps g her tail around her paws, and giving her whiskers a quick lick. Eyja sits across from her, almost eye to eye. Dee being a tad shorter.
“This is Poltergeist, he goes by Ice.” Mammoth introduces the Albino. Dee and Alex dip their heads in a respectful, but silent greeting.
“The Warning, please. Not that I’m upset at seeing you.” Dee joked. Mammoth smiled.
“We just ran into the Loner, Reika. She claims that the river down the way, about a day or two journey, has frozen over. That it’s cold, barren, and empty.”
“Frozen? It’s mid spring, it should be melted by now?” Alex spoke up, confused.
“Exactly. Reika had become so concerned that she decided to leave her home. Reika. The forever Loner, who would NOT leave her home due to civilization, or flooding, was scared out of her home due to this cold. It must be something important.” Mammoth spoke quietly, with his head down.
“Who knows about this?” Dee asked.
“Reika told us, and Alaska. We sent Alaska home, to warn the others, and we went to tell Aspen, who wanted us to find you.” Eyja stated.
“We didn’t want to cause Panic for no reason, so we’ve kept it quiet. We plan on leaving soon, hoping it’s not Borga. But in the case that it is, we’d rather leave them be, and wait until they pass through.” Poltergeist interjected.
“Borga? The bringer of Snowstorms?” Alex shook her head in disbelief. Looking to Dee. “Taluna just returned home from her Dominance Rites, and received an Omen from Appiaq. Warning of unfortunate, and unforeseen changes. With a vision of ice and snow.”
“Oh I didn’t even connect that, that’s a good connection.” Dee exclaimed. “Thank you for the warning, please, stay the night, the mountains are dangerous in the dark. You can head home in the morning, we might as well. Thank you for the warning.” Dee tilts her head back to the clearing. “Higgs, Alex, and Goth Prince were fishing, and I, sure they will be able to share. Please come rest.”
The blue alphas settled down, and Poltergeist went to meet Dees pack. As the pack returned to being calm, Dee couldn’t relax.
How could she relax when Borga, the bringer of Snowstorms, ice, cold, and one who kills one sight, could be coming? Just when winter is over, and the hope of spring arriving. Only for it to be pushed away, due to a cloud of ice and snow.
