Description
I wanted to attempt a Screenshot drawing as a warm up today, instead of coloring, and this was the result. The anatomy is off, but for me lining first thing in the morning, I think it’s pretty good, lol
Anyway, Swiftstar01 drew a BEAUTIFUL drawing of Redtail, her Redstar, and both of my Redstar OCs.
www.deviantart.com/swiftstar01…
She ALSO requested some backstory on Redfangstar.
I decided, why not? Redfangstar isn’t exactly a main character, but his story is there. It’s just sorta a side story that’s only touched on thanks to his brother, Mudpaw.
So, Spoilers ahead, as Redfangstar is a consistent Side Chararacter throughout Mudpaw’s POV
LONG POST
Still here?
Alright
So, Story starts out, Redpaw FINALLY gets his Warrior name, Redfang, along with Snowpaw (Snowdrop) and the kittypet Aspen (Leaftalon)
His mother, Gingertail, remarks that it’s about time. Mentioning that ‘she’ is only able to become a Warrior, because Palestar doesn’t want to have a 3 year old Apprentice. If it was her choice, as ‘her’ mentor and mother, Redfang would be an apprentice even longer.
Right, in the middle of the Clan Meeting.
Mudpaw, Redfang’s littermate is not allowed to leave his position with the Medicine cats during a Clan meeting, and hates to see his brother being belittled in front of everyone. Their oldest sibling, Minttail, heavy with kits, comes to Redfang’s aid. Defending her younger brother, against her mother. Stating that Gingertail’s SON has done far more training than any of the apprentices, and much deserves his name. Squirrelheart, Minttail’s littermate (Red and Mud’s Older brother) comes to stand by Redfang, sandwiching him. Redstripe, their dad, speaks up from his place at the head of the clan with Palestar. Stating that he gave Redfang an assessment himself, and believes that his SON is an excellent warrior and deserves his name. Gingertail storms off, calling Redfang a disgraceful daughter, or something similar. (Redfang is Trans. Born female, uses Male pronouns.)
Palestar controls the clan again, and we see Redfang getting comforted by his siblings. Leaftalon notes that Redfang is a very quiet and Lonely cat.
We find out later, through Leaftalon’s POV, in the middle of the night, that Redfang and Mudpaw talk at night. And he finds out that Redfang’s scars come from his mother, for not being fast enough to catch a rabbit moons ago. He hears Mudpaw mention that Redfang looks thin, and underfed, and should start eating more. Especially since Gingertail isn’t there to limit his food intake. He shakes his head sadly, stating that he may not bean apprentice anymore, but she’ll always be there to breathe down his neck. He returns to bed, and Leaftalon speaks with Mudpaw.
Mudpaw explains that Gingertail wanted to have the Perfect Warrior as her kit. Someone just like her. That’s why she got with Redstripe (who he calls Dad.) in the first place. Squirrelheart was too much like Redstripe in personality, and Minttail too much like him in body type. Mudpaw gets a little tear gas he continues explaining.
Stating that he was originally his mother’s apprentice, as their oldest littermate, Puddlepaw became Leafstep’s Apprentice. He held a good relationship with StarClan. Mudpaw states that he ended up being killed by a fox, when he went to get help for Leafstep during a ‘Breathing Fit’ (she has Asthma). And Mudpaw requested to become her apprentice through Palestar. He agreed, and his mother demanded an apprentice. So his brother was taken from Redstripe, and mentored through Gingertail.
Leaftalon consoles Mudpaw. Stating that Redfang isn’t upset at him, and he shouldn’t blame himself. Mudpaw calls himself a coward, and states that he can’t even become a full medicine Cat because of it.
We don’t see much of Redfang, or hear too much about him. We see him in the background getting cornered by Gingertail once Redstripe, Leafstep, and Leaftalon leave, and Minttail has her kits. Mudpaw begins to focus on attempting to communicate with StarClan, and tries to figure out what’s going on with the Travelers. He’s also attempting to find out the cause for more cats going Barren, and kits going missing, as cats from other clans have come to them looking for missing kits. He unintentionally leaves Redfang to fend off their mother alone.
We see Redfang’s POV once, in theory (it’s not set in stone, but the scene is.) in which he tells Snowfeather to tell his brother he’s sorry. Snowfeather tells him he’s being dumb, and needs to co front his mother, but if his mind is set, he’ll tell him if he is gone in the morning. He goes to say goodbye to Minttail, and her kits, and she scolds him. Telling him that he can’t let Gingertail run his life. That he needs to stand up for himself, and tell her off. Once he does, she’ll leave him alone. He tells her he can’t. He just can’t. She says fine. She’ll have to find a new mentor for her eldest kit, who has taken a shine to him. Through tears he asks her to repeat. She nudges the tiny bundle at her side, saying that she already asked Palestar for Redfang to be his mentor. She thinks he’d be a great one. She believes in him, even if Gingertail doesn’t. Redfang loves his nieces and nephews, and decides to stay.
Mudpaw begins to notice Redfang brushing off Gingertail, and ignoring her completely. Spending most of his time speaking to his aunt Roseleap, who is the Stand in Deputy for Redstripe. Mudpaw notices him playing with the kits, and leading hunting patrols, and eventually becomes a secondary stand in for Roseleap.
Roseleap eventually goes missing, and Palestar makes Redfang the stand in.
He takes it with pride, but does not get too cocky. He goes out on patrols, hunting, and even doing extra chores, such as cleaning out bedding for the queens and elders.
Mudpaw notes that he’s more distant from him, but he’s happy that he’s able to feel pride in his job.
Once Roseleap returns, acting strange, with a cut ear tip, Mudpaw knows something’s wrong. More and more cats are going missing, and returning different, with that same ear nick. Roseleap isn’t interested in being stand in deputy, and steps down. Palestar still makes Redfang the stand in, much to Gingertails dismay. Who states that he hasn’t had an apprentice, so he can’t be deputy. Palestar responds with saying that Redfang went through 2 and a half years of apprenticeship. Enough time for him to mentor his own apprentice if he was given the chance. Minttail states that she agrees with Palestars choice. Mudpaw agrees as well, and the clan agrees that Redfang deserves this position. Mudpaw congratulates his brother, who looks, happy. Happy for the first time in years.
But it doesn’t last. Mudpaw sees blue and green lights in the sky, and Gets a message from StarClan. His first one. But it’s not a happy one. They need to leave. And now. He tells Redfang, who tells Palestar. They send Warriors to the other clans, and they hold an unofficial gathering. Redfang speaks for Mudpaw, as he just can’t. He’s too nervous an anxious. Eventually the pair of brothers convince the clans to leave. Redfang agreeing to lead the clans with the help of the other deputies. He becomes the Leader of the Windclan group. Mudpaw sorts out the cats who have been marked as ‘Barren’ and cannot come in the journey. Gingertail being one of them.
They leave. Mudpaw notices how well his brother leads, and is willing to work harder for the youngest kit. To make sure they survive. The other group leaders also mention that he does a great job leading for a new Warrior.
Redfang isn’t mentioned too much. A lot of the basic leading the group with the other leaders, and speaking out on behalf of those who don’t want attention drawn to them.
When they reunite with the Travelers, they find out the situation at hand.
They found their home.
But they must fight to keep it.
Mudpaw finds the StarCave, and communicates with StarClan once again. He sees his brother Puddlepaw, and state that this battle will be dangerous, and it’s important that the new leaders get their 9 lives, a ceremony that hasn’t been preformed in many generations.
Mudpaw asks who.
Redstripe to lead Windclan.
Sootclaw to lead Shadowclan.
Silvertuft to lead Riverclan.
Speckleclaw to lead Thunderclan.
And
Leaftalon to reform, and lead Skyclan.
Once informed of this, Leaftalon states that he can’t lead a clan, he can’t even tell a kit what to do.
Redfang steps in. Saying he will lead, and he’ll take Leaftalon’s place.
They all go to StarClan to retrieve their 9 lives.
They find out that shortly after they left, two legs came, and killed them all by making them sleep. The kits and apprentices were not here, hopefully meaning they’re still alive. But most of the elders, and warriors are there.
Including Gingertail.
Unlike previous times, there isn’t enough time to have each ceremony alone with a medicine Cat. So all 5 leaders, and their medicine cats are there together. Mudpaw is the medicine Cat for both his father, and his mother. Redstripestar accepts all of his lives with no problem. Redfangstar does, until his last life.
Gingertail steps forwards, and Redfangstar radiates hatred, and anger. Mudpaw glances at the pair. His brother is angry.
Gingertail states that she is there to give him his final life. Forgiveness. Redfangstar bursts. Unable to contain his anger and hatred any longer. (Scene above.) Redfangstar rejects this life, and leaves. Leaving with only 8 lives.
During the battle between The Family, and The Clans, Redfangstar almost dies, and Gingertail sacrifices herself to save him. Fading from existence entirely. (Think Spottedleaf.)
Redstripestar asks His former mate why, and she states that she owed her son a life.
Redfangstar is still bitter, and states that they’re now even.
And there you have it. The breakdown and spoilers of Redfangstar.
It’s supposed to be that he hates his mother, and show that no matter what they do afterwards, you are not required to forgive them.
We don’t see the extent of the abuse Redfangstar suffered at the hands (paws, lol) of his mother, but we see how he acts afterwards. We see him grow, and distance himself from his abuser and attempt to progress his live as best he can.
Having him lead Skyclan was a last minute thing, and I liked it too much to cut out.
Anywho, sorry for the long post,
Redfangstar just isn’t delved too much on, his story is more background and Implied.

Such a powerful scene! You can see both of their emotions and Redfangstar just about to full on explode for the next shot! T.T Poor thing! I just want to hold him and cuddle!
Can't wait to see more of the story!
Kind of reminds me of Katara from Avatar and her anger towards the Fire Nation soldier who killed her mother. She never forgave him either, even after Aang told her to do so she can heal. NOPE! She refuses to! She even Blood Bended the pitiful soldier! *shivers* Aang is indeed right but Katara's anger (and in this case, Redfangstar's anger) are too far gone to even consider Forgiveness. Gingertail is too late. At least their is now even ground at the end when she gave up her spirit to save Redfangstar but it still isn't and won't be enough.
Swifttalon has something similar with her mother but not on Redfangstar's level. She isn't a fan of her and doesn't want to hear her name due to being reminded of that day. Nightbreeze really didn't help but at least she's gone now. She too receives a life from her but it wasn't Forgiveness but Loyalty. I can see Forgiveness working as well but I think its more powerful for Brownwing to recognize Swifttalon's happiness in WindClan and seen how Loyal she was and wanting to honor it.

He’s a touch starved baby, he’d love cuddles, but would play it off like he doesn’t like them.
Hes been building up everything for years, he’s ready to pop, lol
Omg, I completely forgot about that episode, I loved it so much! I really did like it, that sometimes you just can’t forgive and forget. Sometimes it needs to be spoken about, and discussed, or get even, lol.
that really sweet, I like that! She’s so loyal to her clan I think it’s fitting!!
