Description

It was already October! It seemed like only yesterday that everyone was basking in the light of spring! Who knew autumn would’ve come so quickly.

This also meant that the tree’s were losing leaves, and sure, as pretty as it was to see flecks of orange and yellow flutter down from high branches and land gracefully in a pile of amber on the ground.
Orchid’s eyes flickered open, squinting to let her eyes adjust to the light that beamed through the window. She smiled and stretched before turning around to face her big sister. Cynder lay peacefully beside her, breathing steadily; something that Orchid hadn’t seen her do in quite a long time. The light blue teen brushed the soft purple hair away from the older one’s freckled face, and kissed her nose.

Cynder groaned. She never liked mornings, and Orchid was always one of those early risers.

“Come on, sis! It’s the first nice day we’ve had in ages!” Orchid giggled, cuddling up closer to her older sister.

However, she got no vocal response, rather, Cynder made a gentle purring sound from the back of her throat and rolled over before squeezing her plush Rattle Cow tight into her arms.

Orchid sighed, sitting up and sliding off of the bed and walking to the door. She grabbed a hair-tie from the bedside table and tying her hair into a messy ponytail.
“Alright, sis,” she whispered, “You sleep in for a bit, I gotta get on with the chores. It’s windy outside! We need to gather the leaves together to keep the garden tidy.”

The door clicked shut, and Orchid looked around the living room. She had to stifle a laugh as she looked at the sight in front of her: Pillows and blankets were sprawled all over the floor, with a few of Gabu’s plushies laying on the sofa where the young wyngling had slept on last night.

“They must’ve had a pillow fight in here!” Orchid chuckled.

She felt a sudden soft touch brush against her leg, making her look down at her paws.

Gabu rubbed his soft head against her ‘ankles’ before looking up at her with his emerald eyes and a smile of pure childish innocence.

“Loki! You’re up!” the brown child sang as he jumped up into her arms, “Papa is outside with Mocha!”

Orchid nuzzled him back, “Awesome! There’s lots to get on with, we have to clean the garden of all the leaves that have fallen in the night! You coming?”

Gabu shook his head.

“I’m drawing a picture for mama!” he squeaked, as he jumped from the biped’s arms to the sofa before grabbing a crayon and settling down beside the small table and scratching it along the paper.

“Okay then! Have fun, sweet bean~!” she cooed before padding to the front door and opening it.

Wow! Not only were leaves scattered around the garden, but the entire fields in the distance were riddled with them!

Orchid walked past Noodle’s pen and called for him.

The spoodle came trotting over, jumping up at the gate and nuzzling his head into her chest. She giggled and stroked his nose; he always came to the gate when he heard Orchid or Cynder’s voice.

“Hey Noodle! It’s pretty windy out here, huh? Look at all the leaves!”
“Neh!” Noodle cried, shaking some leaves off his woolly coat.

“Ma!”

Orchid spun around to see Mocha holding a rake in her paws. She ran up and hugged her, her tail swaying from side to side.

The blue biped kissed her adopted daughter’s head.

“Dad and I are working on the leaves! Hopefully it won’t take too long! Oh! And Joltex is paying a visit! He’s helping out!” Mocha smiled, cracking her knuckles before taking off running to the back of the house.

Dash was busy raking the final few leaves into a pile.

“Oh! Hey, dear!” Dash chuckled, holding Orchid close to his small frame.

“Orchid! What’s up?” Joltex grinned, his ears flicking enthusiastically and he trotted over to high five his best friend.

“Looks like the garden is neat already!” she added, placing her hands on her hips.
“Yep! Just a few more piles to go!” the yellow teen replied.

…

...An hour or two passed, and the garden was finally clear. Sure, the odd leaves covered the ground, but the worst of it was gone.

Dash wiped the small beads of sweat that were building up on his fur tuft, “Phew! That’s the last of them!”

...but the relief lasted not even a minute…

Gabu came running from the front of the house, his eyes fixed on the leaf pile that they had just finished.

...a feeling of dread came over the four bipeds…

All they could do was watch as the wyngling bounced delightfully into the leaf pile.

“WHOOOOHOOOOOO~!”

Gabu squeaked with joy as he launched himself forward and began rolling around in the muddy leaves.

Mocha’s jaw dropped. Joltex gave the wyngling a look of both confusion and amusement as he tried to resist the urge to jump into the leaf pile and join him. Orchid scratched the back of her head and looked down at the floor with a blush forming on her face.

There was an awkward silence between them all. No one knew what to say first.

A sudden nervous laugh escaped from Dash’s lips, his face red with embarrassment.

“W-well… I… I guess I don’t blame him!” he wagged his tail and looked around at the others.

The three nodded in agreement, they all knew that jumping in fallen leaves was one of the best things about autumn…

...Besides, they’d only have to clear the garden of leaves tomorrow anyway!

Whoa... 951 words! I was worried I wouldn't even get past 400!
