Son of Gaia and Uranus.One of the Gigantomachy giants born from the blood of Uranus when he was castrated by Kronos.
A giant opponent of Athena is depicted in the Siphnian Treasure, in the epic poem Meropis, the Giant, here spelled Asterius, is presented as an invulnerable warrior from the Aegean island of Kos, who fights Heracles during his fight against the Meropes, the Koan race of Giants; Athena intervenes to save Hercules from death and kills Asterius by skinning him.
