They are female reptilian monsters with some human characteristics. They are prominently portrayed as foot soldiers.
In Greek mythology, the original Scythian Drakaina once stole Heracles' horses and offered to return them to him if the hero would sleep with her. This resulted in three sons, one of whom named Scythes became ruler of Scythia.
Scythian Drakaina are described as humanoid females with twin serpentine torsos instead of legs. They have been described as "dragon women" or "snake women". Their walk has been described as "a combination of walking and gliding.
The name Drakaina or Dracaena was also related to other female monsters as a distinct group. Some of them would be Echidna, Scylla, Delphyne, Ceto, Kampe and Lamia, any monster that was half woman and half serpent or dragon fit into this group.
