Description Son of Aphrodite and Ares.
Second Generation Greek Daemon.
Brother of Eros, Anteros, Pothos, Deimos, Phobos and Harmonia.
He was the Greek god of sexual desire. One of the Erotes who were Aphrodite's constant companions, agents of her divine power.
Himeros is usually depicted as a winged youth or child, like the other erotes. He was often portrayed together with Eros in the scene of the birth of Aphrodite, who flies around the shell of the goddess in the sea. At other times, he appears as a triad of gods of love, with his brothers, Eros and Pothos (Love and Passion). As an individual god, however, he had no distinct cult. When he was represented together with Eros he was probably identified with Anteros (requited love).
Himeros was described as a rejected god and sometimes hidden by the gods, hence the taboo of talking about sex, but his mother Aphrodite loved him in a way that aroused jealousy in his brothers, Himeros was always by Aphrodite's side in his meetings with Ares, helping to provide the two moments of intense pleasure. Himeros is closely linked to homosexuality, sexual freedom and enjoyment of life, for not having married he is considered an independent god.
In several stories, Himeros is said to be a god who used to have sexual relations with his brothers Erotes, mainly with Eros.
Himeros induced people to feel intimate passions and encouraged them to practice sex to keep their species alive, he was worshiped at fertility parties alongside Aphrodite, although he does not appear much in the stories, his cult was quite extensive.
