Description Somewhere, deep within, there's a people known as the Azure. Named by the surface folk for their trademark blue skin. It's unknown whether or not their skin is truly blue, as they've never been seen outside of their underground dwelling. The blue light in the cave travels deep within, carried by the refraction of both the blue crystals in its walls and the strange liquid crystal flow.

There, some fantasy for you. I call this a speed(paint) thanks to the fact that I am utterly addicted to this piece. I am determined to revisit it later and fully detail it. I will say that this is entirely inspired by Jeremy Vickery's art. Catch this inspiring master of light here: *jermilex

Wooow, this has a very nice, icy feel to it. LOL it actually reminds me of a scenery from a zelda game.

Thank you! Though I feel I might add more color diversity when I detail it further. Whenever that is.

I'm a big fan of Jeremy Vickery's art too and you've captured his style of lighting perfectly in this while at the same time making it your own. Love the feel of the water. Look forward to seeing what this develops into.

Thanks! Me too.. I've got some ideas in my head. I want to expand on the idea of the "Azure people."

And here you go with another of my favorite things...rocks/caves! WOOT!

I love the reflection, you can almost hear the stillness you find in caves.

And that infrequent "poink" from a single drop of water somewhere in the dark..

babynychus In reply to Leap [2009-03-06 03:53:35 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. Clearly this is a live cave, as it's still wet. That water droplet must exist occasionally!

Leap In reply to babynychus [2009-03-06 03:57:16 +0000 UTC]

Haha yup. Though I'm sure you find it odd that there is a surprising lack of stalactites and stalagmites for such an obviously wet cave. But hey, fantasy has its perks.

babynychus In reply to Leap [2009-03-07 03:18:47 +0000 UTC]

You got a column there that looks like it was formed by the merging of a stalactite and stalagmite, so it works! Also, I've never quite seen large crystals like that in a cave, so yeah, fantasy for the win!

Leap In reply to babynychus [2009-03-07 03:23:39 +0000 UTC]

right on! Hahaha Except for that cave in Mexico.. the recently discovered one. I don't remember much about it, but it was a chamber of enormous crystals. I forget what kind.

I can't wait either, you're already a great sketch artist. That should translate well. It's even better once you realize just how much control CS3 gives you.

aw well mines the Bamboo. I gots it and I'm waiting for it to come in. I gotta start studying up on photoshop *nodding*

Leap In reply to Isdailic [2009-03-06 05:04:21 +0000 UTC]

The only difference really between the graphire and the bamboo is the way the pressure sensitivity "feels" and the bamboo is a little more suited for widescreen monitors. But when it comes down to it, both are the same great entry level tablet from the same great tablet company. No worries

Remember, play around TONS. Just "playing" with photoshop helped me learn it and understand the many tutorials I've watched/read. Good stuff.

That is a beautiful concept. I don't see many environments where one can really get away with choosing one color scheme, but this painting really pulls it off. Great contrast between light and dark, really draws the eye into the cavern. If anything, the only thing I would advise is to carry out the reflection of the light source a little more on the water.

There is a splendid use of texture here, I especially like the lines the rocks just above the water line, gives a sense that this pool has been here for some time. I am not sure I would have thought of that.
