I had no idea, Andrew. What I know about the 20D is that it was highly praised during it's release. How do you like it? Will you stick to Canon or switch to another brand in the future? Of course, the more accessories one has got the more difficult it gets to switch, I know. That's also the reason for my early change. You might have noticed that I took the above shot with an EOS 500D. I liked the camera but sold it eventually and switched to Nikon shortly afterwards because I think I am more comfortable with it in the long run. Of course that's a personal and subjective thing.

i got my Canon 20D last year Florian complete with an 18-55mm and a Sigma 28-300mm lens this is my fourth camera since being on DA, i have been shooting digitally from as far back as 1999/2000 the first camera i got was a Kodak DC210 but things only started to get serious when i got my Fuji Finepix 602 with a telephoto lens so that i could do close up/macro photography
sadly i dropped it one day and then ended up with a Canon Powershot S3 IS great little camera but guess i wanted more hence making the move on to a DSLR, i did get a little compact after injured my shoulder

Moving to a DSLR is definitively a huge step forward concerning image quality and overall flexibility. I am glad you are happy with your camera. Before I got the 500D I had a Panasonic FZ28 "bridge camera". Unfortunately I had the bad idea of taking it with me on a canoeing trip with some friends. You might guess what happened to it... 
Close up/macro photography is really an exciting genre. Time and again I am impressed by all the details around us waiting to be discovered. Indeed I find myself getting into ever new genres of photography, like Street, Abstract/Surreal, Minimalist and B&W in general. And places like dA or SN are real treasure troves in this regard.
Btw, I hope your shoulder is well again!

making the transition from a point and shoot to a DSLR was a good move as now i have much more control over my images
my current lens allows me to do everything from close up to street nature and so on
