Description
This is for the War at SPaVES! As you may or may not be able to tell, we're on Team Egypt! Wooohooo! I've always had an unhealthy fascination with ancient egypt (particularly with the Amarna, though that doesn't really translate here lol) so I had to dive at the chance to join, mostly in the hopes that something fun and simple would draw my 'muse' back. Thus, it's likely that many of my coming works will be sort of flat coloured/simple backgrounded. Sorry D: But it's fun not to take a piece too seriously! xD
ANYway, you probably don't know who this young lady is, so I shall tell you! This is Grace Mohi, who's been in the works for a bit. She's Misty Mountain's resident Amazon and towers over Marianne at 6'0. She big. Her dad's Maori, her mum isn't, and thus, Grace is a melting pot. More info will be on her full bio, coming soon!
Behind her is MNT Madame De Pompadour , or Reinette, who's a four year old Norwegian Warmblood. Reinette's pretty much turned into Grace's horse since she started working at the stable; the mare arrived broken to ride and started in dressage. Now she and Grace are working on their event training together. It's going pretty well I should think; Reinette's a clever girl and catches on quickly. TACK! So, Reinette's sporting an Ancient Egyptian look, referenced from a very many google pics. The Ancient Egyptian bridle was thick and bit-less, and seems to me as though it would function far more like a halter than a bridle... but okay! If it worked for the Pharaohs, it works for us! The 'saddle' is a brightly coloured blanked, tied around the neck at the front, and under the barrel behind her forelegs and before her hind legs to keep it on. This was referenced from all the chariot pictures hanging around; there aren't too many pictures of mounted Ancient Egyptians (that I could find) and the one that did appear was riding bareback. This is far more fun. Pretty colours! Last! On Reinette's tail is a thick cuff -- this is not an Ancient Egyptian tradition, but as you can tell, Reinette is not an Arabian, and needs a little help pulling the rest of the look off xD
The beads in Grace's hair clacked together unceremoniously every time she moved. It had taken hours to get it all braided and set with jewellery, so she thought it would have been far more accommodating. Instead, she had her own tiny band tapping out 'La Cucaracha' every time she tried to move. It was irritating as all hell, but there was no way she was undoing anything. It had taken far too long. And it was pretty. Bottom line was, she'd get used to the clacking if it killed her -- or drove her insane, which was far more likely at this point.
Grace tried her best to ignore her mini chorus as she pulled Reinette's cotton blanket out of the tack box. It wasn't much of a saddle, but it certainly was colourful. And, she suspected, far more comfortable. Plus, historically accurate. Maybe. She wasn't entirely sure considering Marianne had designed the costumes (Grace had never been very artistically minded), but she trusted her new boss. She didn't have much choice but that was beside the point.
She unfolded the blanket with one glorious shake, sending it flapping and clanging -- she always forgot about those metal bits -- throughout the stable they were housed at. The noise made Reinette shy sideways uneasily; she wasn't fond of loud, spontaneous noises. Loud, continuous noises she could deal with, but she wasn't one for surprises.
"Sorry, Sweetie," Grace said, giving the two-toned mare a gentle pat on the neck as she slid the blanket onto her back. Reinette accepted it well enough; they'd ridden with it before. As soon as it had arrived at the stable, they'd practiced with it. The mare had never been bothered by it -- she accepted it quickly, and Grace suspected it probably had something to do with the fact that it must've felt exactly like her blanket. Riding with it hadn't been a problem either. The dangly bits had bothered her at first as they flapped around her barrel, but she'd gotten over them quite quickly.
When they were all set, Grace stepped back and admired her mount, wondering if she could enter a couples' costume contest with a horse this coming halloween. They'd take the pumpkin, that was for certain. She grinned to herself as the mare craned her neck about to look at her, batting her long eyelashes pleadingly, begging her to move on with their lives. Yes! Moving on. That was a good idea, she had to carry on with the war. But now that they were dressed... she had no idea what to do next. Maybe she should locate some more Egyptians. Or go hunt for asps somewhere. She'd figure it out.

This looks wicked I'm not well versed on Egyptian culture and my knowledge is pretty much limited to Disney's 'The Prince of Egypt' but I really like all the costume designs (that blanket!), and it'll be great to learn more about Grace
Have to ask, too - what is the War at SPaVES? Sounds interesting

Lol! That's a great film! It was DreamWorks I believe; gotta see it again. I always thought the queen was so pretty T-T With her massive hair and shiny, shiny jewellery xD
It looks like it's going to be loads of fun, and you HAVE to join!! Here's the link to the journal: [link] It seems like a really fun, easy going and 'just for kicks' sort of event, which is half the reason I joined lol

Not an absolute favourite, but I do like it a lot, and some of the music is lovely (there are actually a number of films I could watch/listen to for the soundtrack alone).
It does look like fun, which is a bit unfortunate, since I'm still going with the Outlaw trail and I'm not sure I have time for another ongoing show, what with other things I need to do. But eee; the Greek team! that's so me that it hurts
(and gives me an added idea for our medieval show to be held this summer - chariot racing
)

Definitely; I thought it had a gorgeous soundtrack, but I think my all time favourite animation soundtrack is probably Hunchback of Notre Dame. The MUSIC in that film blows my mind every time!
Lol! I know what you mean! I had the hardest time picking between Greek and Egyptian! The deciding vote was that there'd probably be more contenders for the Greek team, since Ancient Greece seems far more popular, and poor Egypt would be left in the dust. And YAY! Good idea! We really have to start discussing this show xD It's too awesome to pass up

Disney's Hunchback? That is stunning, I totally agree! And one of my favourite animated characters is in that movie, too (Djali), so happiness all round . Its not animated, but the film 'Fly Away Home' is quite old, but that has been a favourite of mine since childhood, partly for the story, and partly for the music - it has such wonderful musical scores. It's always the one I think of first.
True; I guess Greek mythology is more publicised than Egyptian, so people are more familiar with it in many cases. It doesn't help that my recent Percy Jackson obssession has reawoken a long ago love for it XD But yes; this show needs planning! We need ways of making it stand out so the entries floooooood in

I remember that film! It was never one of my favourites, but the soundtrack was beautiful now that I think back on it.
Percy Jackson doesn't help anything. Except to wind up my nerves while I wait for the next book to come out! I'm slowly dying, filling my days with 'filler books' until the good ones come out again. And to think, it's not coming out till October T-T I'm going to weep loudly in the corner now.

Nah; whenever I mention it most people go "Wha?" and have no idea, let alone be able to put it on a scale of favourites But that's what got me started into Mary Chopin Carpenter's music.
Haha; that is so how I feel right now! Ages ago we named a corner of a shed; I think I'll go burst into tears in that XD I blazed through the PJO series, and I've already finished all three of the HoO series that are out. I've read the Demigod Files, and most of the Demigod Diaries - I have one short story left that I half don't want to start because then I'll have nothing until October! (even the movie hasn't given us a trailer yet!) I'm keeping myself going by writing fanfiction for it XD

I remember the shed, but I forgot his name! -wails- It began with a G, I think...
And lol, I'm not that good at rationing! If I was, I would still have Son of Neptune and Mark of Athena to go! I'm just hanging onto my last 20 or so pages of short story

Nope nope, I'm a glutton for punishment, apparently. I'll read everything now and then wither away until the next book's out. I don't do stretching out (I literally read an entire short story last night - I started reading about Leo and Buford and I was a goner XD)
