Description
I was a fan of Ichigo/Rukia when I first read BLEACH.When I found out Tite Kubo's attempt to make Ichigo and Orihime a pairing, I was so suprised because I've considered that he was going to do IchiRuki instead of IchiHime.
Anyway, IchiHime suits fine with me, and I've become fond of the pairing too.
Although IchiRuki isn't the main pairing in BLEACH now, I will still remember those days when I crazied about this pairing.

Lol, I didn't know that. Actually I'm not that interested in Bleach right now, so I don't really care whether Ichiruki or Ichihime is canon in Kubo's manga. (But I do love the idea of pairing Orihime up with Ulquiorra. They make a great couple, too bad Ulquiorra is already dead now...

*sigh* Yeah, the plot just became worse and worse... The battles last too long, and Aizen and Tousen's latest costumes look pretty lame too, IMO. The design looks kind of hilarious, it just ruined their characters...

Lol, that was pretty cute. It didn't happen in the manga, though, so I didn't know this part until I saw this video clip from the anime. Someone should really write a fanfic about these three characters, the dynamic between them would be very tense and interesting...

Well, I just don't think Kubo has any intention to make Ichigo and Rukia a couple in recent Bleach storyline nowadays. Their relationship looks more like pure friendship than the romantic one to me right now...

For the record I'm a strong Ichigo x Rukia fan. Personally with all the tender moments between Ichigo and Rukia, I don't see Kubo abandoning the relationship. I'm still holding out for something formal, but then again, I always was a hopeless romantic.
As for the actual artist, what I like most about the drawing is the sharp contrast and Rukia's look of utter surprise - it fits in with her character quite well.

Aww, thanks for the compliment! I kind of enjoyed it when I drew this pic, since IchiRuki was one of my favorite pairings at that time...
I think you're right, there were many speicial moments between the two indeed, to be honest. I just don't see Kubo has the intention to do IchiRuki from the recent story line of the manga... I felt sort of disappointed when I first read the news about the changing of heroine because I'd never viewed Orihime as the main heroine before hearing the announcement from the author. Anyway, I guess it isn't a problem anymore since any fan can do fanart for the pairings they like no matter what the author says.

This is a great picture, really. Great poses
But I really don't see how the manga is IchiHime. And I mean really, if Kubo's intention is to have Ichigo end up with Orihime I will eat my house. How did you come to think that? Obviously there's Orihime ---> Ichigo, but that doesn't mean that it's automatically Ichigo ---> Orihime too.
I think this because Ichigo and Rukia have always had 'special' moments; eyecontact, saying eachothers names, genuine smiles... And they really share those moments. I think Orihime's love for Ichigo is actually what prevents them to develop a romantic relationship together, because they cannot really SHARE a bond, since their feelings just aren't the same. It's like a scale that's not balanced.

Lecidre In reply to Out-of-the-rain [2008-07-29 16:02:56 +0000 UTC]
That's true. But I don't think IchiRuki is the cannon pairing right now - at least Kubo doesn't have the intention to emphasize this pairing recently. Like I said in those replies before, the author rules. Since Kubo decided to make Orihime the heroine in the manga, he had increased the importance of Orihime and many scenes look more like IchiHime than IchiRuki. I hated the idea that Kubo changed the heroine at first (I don't know why he changed his mind... I was surprised to see the news about the Bleach heroine thing on the Japanese forum) but it's Kubo who draw the manga, he's the boss.
Actually I don't think Ichigo can develope any romantic relationship in the manga from reading the recent storyline, to be honest. Although he did have some "special moments" with Rukia before, the relationships between them looks like "friendship" rather than the romantic type to me now. Anyway, I don't think which pairing is the cannon ones is that important. Sometimes the cannon pairing subject is up to how the readers think. That's why fanart exists, we can create any kind of pairing even if the characters don't have the relationship in the original manga.

Out-of-the-rain In reply to Lecidre [2008-07-29 16:35:37 +0000 UTC]
The focus may be on Orihime now, but I don't think it's a romantic focus. The HM arc is all about Nakama (the chapter (I believe 317) Six Hearts Will Beat As One (or some title like that)) makes that very clear, although (to me at least) it was clear already. Orihime is being rescued because she's part of that group of Nakama, that's why everyone is fighting for her. Orihime herself said that she'd do just the same for the others and that's why all of their hearts are connected, because they all have the same goal: being there for your nakama.
I do understand that you can see IchiRuki just being friends. Of course there's no hardcore evidence yet that they have romantic feelings towards eachother. But if I think about them actually being romantic, everything just kind of seems to fit. I don't see any signs that they absolutely cannot be a romantic couple. For IchiHime however a few things just would seem strange to me, compared to IchiRuki. Like when they meet. When Rukia and Ichigo meet there's a clear moment between them a lot of times. The best example would be when after the SS-arc Rukia and the others come to Ichigo's school. He greets his shinigami friends like 'wtf o.o' and then Rukia makes her own dramatic entrance and Ichigo can't move or speak. Or when Ichigo goes into that big tv-room where they hear Orihime's captured, when he comes in Rukia's again excepted, they look at eachother and say eachother's names. And even after not having IchiRuki interaction for a looong time, Ichigo and Rukia have some meaningful eyecontact before parting again.
Well, that's why have faith in IchiRuki. It's not just a casual friendship, there's something that makes their relationship different from the others. Even Orihime herself could see that (Kuchiki-san is not just a friend to Kurosaki-kun, because she's the person who changed his whole world) (and since those are Orihime's words, they're Kubo's words too, right?).
I'd like to hear your opinions

Lecidre In reply to Out-of-the-rain [2008-07-30 02:20:20 +0000 UTC]
That's right, Ichigo and his friends came to the HM to rescue Orihime because she is their nakama. But there's one thing we have to know - BLeach isn't a romantic manga from the start. It belongs to the shounen mangas which emphasize the importance of friendship, working hard and victory. Saving your friends when they are in danger is much more important than having romantic affairs with a girl in this kind of manga. The relationship part isn't that important in Bleach.
I was crazy for IchiRuki at first because of those scenes you had mentioned earlier, then I found that Kubo merely views Rukia as Ichigo's best friend, not his lover or the person who may develop any kind of romantic relationship with him. Just like what you said before, Rukia is a very important person to Ichigo. She had changed his life - it's Rukia who brought Ichigo to the world of shinigami and made him become a shinigami. He turned from a senior high school student to a man who had the ability to save the world. That's indeed a big change. That's why his reactions to Rukia are different from the ones he acted to other shinigamis. In my opinion, the reactions of the two characters might look as intimate as lovers in some scenes, but the intimacy between them looks just like "friendship" or the "important nakama" type to me right now.
Some people might argue that since Bleach's theme is friendship (or things about the nakama), it doesn't mean that Ichihime would make sense. But I have to say that it's the readers who decide the pairing they adore, so the Ichihime fans can explain everything into Ichihime just like the IchiRuki fans can view every scenes which involve Ichigo and Rukia as IchiRuki. So I really don't think whether the cannon pairing in Bleach is IchiRuki or not is that important now. We do fanwork for the pairings we love, and that's what fanart are for.

This is a very nice picture. Great use of the hue black. And I have to agree; I think Kite Kubo's art was prime during SS arc. So many beautiful color spreads... :'D
Anyway, as for the whole discussion, I honestly think you guys give Ichigo too much credit. I admit, I am a bit cynical towards the guy, but I think he's too stupid to be in a relationship. I mean come on; Orihime has been screaming "LOVE" and he responds with a "lolwut?" xD
Gotta admit though, Ichiruki is my fav.
As for that one quotation,
["Ichigo is the chief male character, while Rukia is the second leading character. Orihime is the heroine."] everyone seems to be mistaking some terminology. Although he said Orihime is the heroine, it doesn't necessarily say that she's second to Ichigo. And obviously, if this translation is right, Rukia's position as the second leading character still stands. Do you get what I mean?
It seems that Kite Kubo has indeed clarified that Orihime is important to the plot, but just because Rukia isn't the heroine doesn't mean she's less important. She just doesn't have the powah to DEFY GOD or something or other. [dude, I love Orihime, but I hate how Kubo indefinitely gave an excuse to NOT kill any characters]
That's my two cents. I'm sorry. xD

Thank you~~
Honestly, Ichigo is indeed not a "romantic relationship" type of person.
I guess either IchiRuki or IchiHime fans will have to use some of their imagination, or he will never develop any kind of relationship in the original manga.
(Sometimes I have a feeling that perhaps the only woman Ichigo had ever truely loved is his mother...)
Well, Rukia is still an important character, according to Kubo's comment.
It's just that her role seems not as important as the role she played at the begining of BLEACH.
I do wish Kubo could emphasize much more importance of the said second leading character rather than the never-ending one-on-one fights.
(Hell, why do they all insist on fighting individually instead of using the power of team work to end the war once and for all? )
The fact that Kubo never kill any main character can be very annoying.
Seeing the death of a beloved character is a sad thing, but sometimes the death part is necessary to the plot.
Everytime I saw a character injured so badly and then he or she turned out just fine with only some small injuries, I felt I was cheated again by the author.
Since now Orihime has the power to make the dead alive and to cure any kind of injury, Kubo will never have to kill anyone in his manga.
Actually, I hope he could kill somebody important, or the story would just repeat in the same cycle again and agian...
Sometimes it made the story kind of boring.

I'd like to say that "Kubo's giving hints of So and So getting together!" in the manga, but sometimes I think the fans are just reading into it too much. Ichigo just doesn't have the mental capacity of holding a romantic relationship, I think. D:
In the beginning of this arc, it always seemed logical to me that they all should just stay together and team up against the arrancars one by one. That way, they could spare a bit amount of energy each time and NOT be totally overwhelmed by a new enemy. So yeah, I totally agree with you. I was getting VERY tired of those ridiculous fights, and the most annoying thing was that they didn't even win any; they had to get their asses saved by the captains, who they defeated before in the SS arc. Like, what the heck? Did they get weaker, seriously? D:
With Rukia's battle with the Kaien look-a-like, I was kind of hoping she would die. D: Don't get me wrong, I love Rukia, but if she died, MAN... That would have brought epic proportions of development to Ichigo in Bleach. [then again, Byakuya swooping in to save the day did make it better xD]
Yes, I totally agree. Orihime is the type of character who doesn't want harm to come to anyone, ultimately guaranteeing that even the bad guys won't die. No one will die, and sometimes I wonder just how this is going to end. D:

Lecidre In reply to Tiuni [2008-06-23 07:27:15 +0000 UTC]
You're right.
Authors give hints, and then it all depends on what the readers think. I guess that's the reason for numerous kinds of pairings in fanart.
If we really want to be picky, there are many ridiculous things and odd settings in the manga. I guess Kubo didn't have much time to consider the whole story, it would cost him much efforts to explain all the ridiculous things happening in his manga.
I don't think any normal person (or shinigami, as Rukia isn't a human here) could survive after that stab right through her chest from the fake Kaien...but Kubo never kill any important character in Bleach, so she could still live even if she was injured that badly. By the way, I often think it would be very moving if Renji faught to death while trying to save Rukia in the SS arc. I love Renji, but it depress me a lot since he seems to become a clown-like character right now. Thanks for Kubo's kindness not to kill, he is probably the one who keep the record of having the most times of "almost dead but still alive".
I just hope Bleach wouldn't have a suck ending like Shaman King does. In Japan, popular manga is often forced to extend the storyline by the editor and publisher because readers love it, and then the authour's ideas drain out and the story becomes horrible. Readers don't read the manga anymore due to its poor story, and then the manga is forced to end abruptly by the editor and publisher. That's why sometimes I don't want the manga I adore being so popular...

Tiuni In reply to Lecidre [2008-06-23 19:17:25 +0000 UTC]
Very true, and that's why we have so much evidence for different pairings. It's all very interesting, interpretation that is.
Yeah, Kubo isn't exactly a mastermind at world-building. D: There's a lot of things that just doesn't make sense.
I have to agree; I really loved the spotlight Renji had in the SS arc. A confused soldier who finally realizes that his honor lies with his friends... Now he's this bumbling fool who can't kill a pink arrancar. I hate that, because even though he survived all those near death experiences, he's sorta seen as the weakest of the bunch because he almost died. I really loved SS Renji. ):
Ugh, I hope so too. That's the problem with publication with mainstream mangas. The companies want to juice as much money out of it as they can and then dump the readers with a quick and terrible ending as soon as it's unprofitable. Unfortunately, Bleach is becoming more and more popular, so I'm afraid that it's gonna exactly like that. ): The only manga series I've read that kept getting better as it went on is One Piece. [need to catch up on that one, ha]

Lecidre In reply to Tiuni [2008-06-24 14:25:14 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I totally agree with you. Kubo really did a good job at describing Renji's feelings in the SS arc. The flashback of his youth memories with Rukia was very moving, in my point of view. And he just looks like the weakest now since he is the one who nearly died in each battle, no matter who the enemy is...
One Piece is a nice manga indeed, but it has the same problem those mainstream mangas do. Once the main characters encounter a new enemy, they're usually defeated at first because the author wants to emphasize how powerful the enemy is, and then the main characters will beat the enemy after they power-up. Since they are much stronger now, the next enemy will have to be a much tougher one and the same plot will repeat again and again...I guess it's a problem that any popular manga which has a long storyline couldn't avoid, though.

I thought Ichigo and Rukia might develop some sort of relationship since he had risked his life to rescue her from the death penalty.
That's why I felt a little dissapointed when Rukia decided to stay in Soul Society instead of Human World.
Nevertheless, Ichigo/Orihime is still a nice pairing.
They have the same hair color, and that make the IchiHime scene beautiful due to the coherence of the color of orange.

Oh dear, sorry for replying this message this late...
Thanks for providing such detailed information about the characters/pairings/plot of Bleach. Although I already lost interest in this manga/anime nowadays, I still appreciate your help and opinions very much. I may not be crazy for IchiRuki that much for some time, but it's amazing to know that there're still some loyal IchiRuki fans who support this pairing with such enthusiasm.
Anyway, hope you're not too offended by the idea of me not supporting this pairing anymore. Maybe I'll fall in love with IchiRuki again someday, but I just can't feel the same for this couple now... I dunno, but from the start I saw Ichigo and Rukia relationship only as a deep friendship, she changed Ichigo live, thanks to her he have the power to protect the peoples who he care for.
And I never liked IchiHime because of a hair colour, I love how their relationship is development, at first slowly, Orihime have this crush on Ichigo but she's only classmate for him, but later they are geting closer, Orihime's feelings are turning into love, and Ichigo cares about Orihime a lot.
And I love how he only said to Orihime he will protect her *^_^* We know he wants to protect all of his friends but he only said this to Orihime like this and the way he reacted when Orihime went to HM, like someone took a part of him. There's still many-many reason why I support and think IchiHime is going to be canon in the manga.
and in SS arc I started to love Rukia with Renji a lot, it's obvoius she means a lot to him, I would love to see them ending together^^

Rukia and Renji would be a nice pairing indeed.
I was so touched after reading Renji's memories of his childhood with Rukia.
I have to confess that I didn't consider IchiHime as cannon pairing in the first place.
At that time I only regarded Orihime's feelings toward Ichigo as some sort of one-way crush.
Ichigo isn't that kind of person who can detect these emotional matters easily.
Anyway, it's good to see that Ichigo has shown his concern about Orihime.
Seeing them ending together would be great.

Actually..ichihime isnt a pairing confirmed yet(we have anime fillers and inoue's feelings, but that's about it)
I still am pretty sure ichiruki is the canon pairing, just like i've always thought..
What lead you to believe ichihime was canon?

Well, at first I thought IchiRuki is the canon pairing, but later I found that this pairing isn't as obvious as IchiHime from recent plot.
I'm not very sure about which pairing is the officail pairing in Tite Kubo's manga.
After all, BLEACH isn't that kind of manga which emphasizes the romance part, so the pairings might come of fans' association or imagination...
In my point of view, IchiHime is now the cannon pairing to me.
It's a little sad to say this, but Rukia looks more like a guy rather than a girl right now.
She plays an important role as Ichigo's close friend indeed, but I just can't see Ichigo/Rukia as canon pairing unless using some IchiRuki-fan-imagination.

I wanna know, how is rukia a guy? Is that a joke on her appearance or what?
"obvious" as ichihime? True, inoue's feelings have been obvious from the very beginning of the manga, but tell me, in the manga when has ichigo ever shown anything but friendship for the girl? Onesided feelings a canon pairing does not make
I want ya to look at this link here

When someone puts out an argument for ichihime becoming "canon" they usually forget that ichiruki has been foreshadowed from the very start.
Inoue's feelings for ichigo may have taken a somewhat frontseat in this arc..but..honestly the fact that ichigo has not returned them makes me think that she needs to get over trying to nab him in order to get stronger for herself instead of having him come and save her all the time.
(And i'm sorry for all this discussion stuff on your picture thing lol, it just made me want to debate a lot ^^)

Well, it's okay with me.
I don't mind the discussion of pairings.
It's interesting to exchange each other's thoughts and opinions.
Any kind of debate is welcome here.
First I have to claim that my English isn't so wellβsince it is't my native language and I haven't use it for yearsβso sometimes it might be my wrongful use of terms and phrases that cause the misunderstanding.
I meant no harm and I hope that you could understand.
No offense, the "guy" term is neither a flout nor an insult to Rukia.
I love this character.
It's just a word to describe my feelings about the way Tite Kubo drew her recently.
Many of my friends told me that the only feature Rukia has now to discriminate her gender is her big eyes.
If her eyes aren't as big as those typical female characters' in Japanese manga, readers might confuse her with young male character easily.
It sounds like joking, but I have to admit that I agree with the idea.
We all know that Rukia is not the whining type.
She is a girl with strong will and determination, sometimes even stronger than Ichigo.
Her appearance looks sort of neutral in the first place, and it seens that there is a tendency Tite Kubois is doing her style much more like a boy rather than a girl.
So she sometimes gave me the "guy impression"...
To be honest, I felt a little disappointed about the way he illustrates Rukia now.
My friends and I all prefer the way he drew characters in the SS rescue part, but anyone may change.
It's life, and I think we can only accept it.
Indeed, Ichigo/Rukia looks like cannon pairing from the very start of BLEACH.
We can see that Ichigo is on the cover of manga's first volume, while Rukia is on the second volume.
And the picture you provide can also be a proof to it.
But Tite Kubo has stated clearly that the heroine of BLEACH is Orihime.
I was suprised to see the information because I've considered that Rukia is the heroine of the manga and believe that he is going to make Ichigo/Rukia as cannon pairing.
Some people might protest that a chief male character plus a chief female character doesn't equal cannon pairing, but we can get a clue of IchiHime from the recent plot of BLEACH.
On the contrary, Rukia is just like Ichigo's close friend or a good pal to Ichigo instead of someone who might develop a relationship with him.
I couldn't find any trace of IchiRuki in BLEACH recently.
I don't know why Tite Kubo changed his mind (Well, some people said he had decided to make Orihime the chief female character in the first place...), but he is the author.
Authors rule when it comes to the stories they write.
Nevertheless, no matter which pairing is the cannon pairing, fans can still have fun with their support and love to any kind of pairing they like.
That's the way to enjoy our lives.

that's true
but i do not remember kubo tite saying that inoue was the main female character, i want you to look at this the first post on this page here
[link] age=10
As you can see, rukia and ichigo were specificlly designed to contrast one another in character design and according to him personality too, because they are the two main characters..he also names them after the sun and the moon which implies them to be a much higher level then the other characters...i also want you to look at this thing too

on the first post it is from the databook specifically made by the author of bleach. To me, it says that inoue will need to get over ichigo to have happiness. In the manga, inoue says that she wished she was like rukia to ichigo, but is it not true that ichigo and rukia have a special bond that cannot be broken? Inoue wishing that, says that she is striving for something that is not possible, and she needs to rise above it to get stronger emotionally.
To me, the recent events have been more about inoue as a person than ichigo and inoue together, before inoue was kidnapped ichigo says "friends go after eachother when they're in danger" and not only that, but he also says "i can't let a friend stay in danger" when he goes to find ulquiorra who has inoue after kenpachi fights noitora, that doesnt seem very ichihime to me but more like ichigo going after a friend
