I was a fan of Ichigo/Rukia when I first read BLEACH.When I found out Tite Kubo's attempt to make Ichigo and Orihime a pairing, I was so suprised because I've considered that he was going to do IchiRuki instead of IchiHime.
Anyway, IchiHime suits fine with me, and I've become fond of the pairing too.
Although IchiRuki isn't the main pairing in BLEACH now, I will still remember those days when I crazied about this pairing.

Is it true that Rukia’s design was decided before Ichigo’s design?
“Before the story was decided a Shingami uniform popped up into my mind. Unlike the design we have now it was like a uniform from Catholic school where they wore a black jacket over a white blouse with a black bowtie… and they carried a huge scissors. I thought that was what Shinigami was like. After that, to match Rukia’s design I changed Ichigo’s character design. Like Rukia had black hair so it’s best if Ichigo didn’t have black hair.”

To make sure I didn't get it wrong, I've searched the Internet again to look up the information which mentioned the real heroine of BLEACH.

織姫ヒロイン説の発端とは？
アニメで井上織姫役の声優松岡由貴と原作者の久保帯人との対談で「BLEACHのヒロインは織姫」という発言が出た。
びっくりしたというエピソードが視聴者に伝えられた。
のちにBLEACH “B” STATIONというラジオ番組で黒崎一護役の森田成一とゲストの井上織姫役の声優松岡由貴との
会話で一挙に世間に伝わり、原作の展開も手伝って一般的に井上織姫＝ヒロインは定説となった。
During the interview with Tite Kubo and Orihime's voice cast, Yuki Matsuoka, the statement of "Orihime is the heroine of BLEACH" was commented.

In a seiyu event, Yuki Matsuoka (Orihime's seiyu) said that the position of Orihime seens unclear in BLEACH.

"Ichigo is the chief male character, while Rukia is the second leading character. Orihime is the heroine."

From the information above, we can see that Orihime is now the heroine of BLEACH.
I agree with your viewpoint of "Rukia is the heroine in the first place", but the truth is Tite Kubo has decided to make Orihime to be the heroine in the story recently.
Sometimes authors change their leading character from one person to another due to many reasons.
Take Boys Over Flowers (Hana yori Dango) for example.
The original chief male character was Rui Hanazawa, but the author later made Tsukasa Domyoji the leading role because of his unique personality and his popularity among readers.
Actually, although I like IchiHime, I'm still a little confused about why Tite Kubo had decided to make Orihime the heroine rahter than Rukia.
Anyway, I believe we can still enjoy the manga.

I don't mind whether Kubo changes Rukia back to heroine or not.
I love both Orihime and Rukia.

Actually, either IchRuki or IchiHime suits fine with me.
Which pairing is the main pairing in BLEACH doesn't bother me that bad.
I can accept both pairings.
Honestly, I don't think Kubo is going to do IchiRuki now, since he seems to focus on the "Rescue Orihime" part rather than Ichigo's feeling towards Rukia recently.
And don't forget that BLEACH isn't a manga which emphasizes the romance part.
It's published on the JUMP magazine, the one that aims at friendship and victory.
So whether IchiHime is the canno pairing or not isn't such a serious problem to me...

yes but just because its a shounen manga does not mean that romance will not happen, inuyasha, dbz...and even in naruto in the same magazine some form of romance happened, its not like its impossible u no

I understand what you mean.
Indeed, romance may occur in shounen manga.
Such relationship might happen in BLEACH, too.
It's just that Kubo doesn't emphasize the romance part that clearly.
(Well, some fans said that Kubo has an intention to do Ulquiorra/Orihime...I can accept this pairing too, so it doesn't bother me a bit 
I think it depends on reader's comprehension when it comes to the pairing subject.
We can do any pairing we like even if the pairing seems impossible in the original manga.
That's why fanart exsists.
