Description w0000t! its here, its finally here! xDDD

yesterday, as i was coloring that naruto/konohamaru picture, i realized maybe its time i do a tutorial on coloring, since i've had a lot of requests the past few months.

anyways, to keep it short, here it is. it doesnt incorporate exactly everything i do, you're better off discovering some things on your own anyway. plus, its more like a guide to HOW i color, and even so, i change my techniques constantly!

feel free to ask me anything, or comment on whatever you want. more info will be added later!

by the way, the picture used in the tutorial can be found in its finished version here:

[link]

hope it will be of use to you, and that you will like it!!

PS. its a huge file! i kid you not!!

------------------------------------------

EDIT: updated the tutorial with an easier-to-read font, upon request!

You know, I was just trying to figure the whole layer thing out today.
Then I came across this. Now, I think I get it. Thanx for making this!

no problem! its not up to date with my style, but if it helps you get the idea of layering, its all good i suppose!

could be better but still a great help, try to mention which toolbrush styles you use sometimes...

i think it has been mentioned i used only the default hard round brush in that tutorial. however, i work in entirely different way now, so its not accurate in any aspect really... ^^

you can make the first view steps easier. double click on the layer and klick on OK. so you dont must duplicate layer and delete the old.

nice tutorial ^^

My two cents: 'Layer from background' is faster then 'duplicate background layer'+'delete background layer'

well, if you dont have 15 seconds to spare, and dont want to go explaining stuff that is more complicated than just opening a .jpg up in photoshop, you can do either way, of course.

you cheated on that headband lol! I think i'll start to cheat too u_u I like some of the headbands i make, but you method is way easier XD

I wanted to know about the rain.. you draw every water "line" and reduce the opacity, just that? And what about the water pouring on the clothes and etc? a white brush with low opacity too?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Lee-nus In reply to tanukitchokes [2007-07-06 10:24:11 +0000 UTC]

of course, maybe i should add, that this is only ONE way to color headbands. and its not really cheating. if the base isnt good, it doesnt matter what you do with the metallic overlay, it will still not look good. its not like the metal overlay does anything for you, it just adds a little extra detail, which technically, you could achieve just as well with a texture brush.

Lee-nus In reply to tanukitchokes [2007-07-06 10:18:08 +0000 UTC]

i usually use the brush on full opacity, or slightly reduced for both opacity and flow, and draw every single line, yes. the trick is, though, that i do that for a limited amount of strokes, then duplicate that layer and put the copy in another place and position so that you cannot see the pattern in it! as for the pouring water, its the same thing. i just draw little strokes where i think they should be. and yes, i reduce the opacity on both layers when im done! ^^
