Description
Finished at last..Waylander is a favourite character from the David Gemmell novels probably his best creation and I loved reading the books again to get inspiration..In the piece Waylander is pursuing someone and finds one of his cross-bow bolts (which he fired earlier) on the ground..So now he has to tread carefully while following the blood trail..
Oil on canvas 22" by 32"
And thanks to Cobweb [link] for allowing me to use his stock..
This piece is dedicated to David Gemmell who sadly died last year..

Hello the camp!
Nice work! I really like Waylander, and have been happy to find that appreciation reflected by other dA members as well.
I admin a new Facebook group for appreciation, reflection, and in-depth discussion of David's wonderful books. We've got a lot of cool stuff planned to enrich the Gemmell experience. There is no monetary motivation, just want to share the love.
Perhaps you would be willing to let us post your Gemmell-related art in our photo gallery (with art credit and a link to your dA page, of course)? Please come and join the conversation!

Awesome! You've really captured him. Gemmell's books are some of my favourites, especially Waylander. It was very sad to lose him.

Very beautiful piece. I love every bit of it. From detailing of the horse, to the guy's hair, to the attention to the forest around them.

Thanks...I think it's different for every one who read Gemmell's book's... I kind of based it before he killed the Drenai king in the first book making him look a bit younger.

It does look pretty good. Although Druss is my favourite character from Gemmell's books, Waylander also has a place in my heart.
Well done!

Thanks... Sorry I've not answered.. been having problems with this page finding my comments... but now thankfully I can answer them..
As you can see I'm a huge fan also of Gemmell's... Waylander is definitely the favourite and there's also a Druss piece on the go [link] maybe Skilgannon later on.. but at the moment I'm reading Gemmell's Troy.
I loved the Rigante series.. Connovar and his son Bane really exellent characters.

Hey Lee.
It turned out fabulous. The only little thing that I see that draws my attention is a sort of halo around his head where the backgrounds appears to be lighter than the rest of background. I see it a bit aound his left hand and knee as well. Was that intentional ?
I saw you posting about Halo 2 I haven't tried it yet .. I didn't even realize that it was out, but I picked up Gears of War and that game Is bloody Awesome .. Best I've ever played to date. Between that, Saints Row which I'm almost finished .. Having difficulties at the Airpost Mission, and Fight Night Round III .. I barely play the other games that I've bought for my 360. Lost planet looks a lot like a cross between Halo and Gears ... I may pick that one up once the price drops some.

Thanks..Yes my friend noticed that too..I scaled the head down a little and the knee and was a bit lazy finishing off..You know when you get to the end of a painting and you just want it finished..and I think the photo doesn't do it justice as well..but hopefully I'll finish those areas soon and get a decent photo when we get some sunlight over here..
You have to play Halo 2..It's what the Xbox was built for and online play is awsome..My nephew has totally mastered that game online..At the moment I'm hooked on Battlestation's Midway..but online I've found some of the game rooms quite glitchy..so they need to sort that out..

What a gorgeous piece. I'm so happy to see this finished! I've been waiting patiently for it. I absolutely love it of course.
The perfectly blended colors on the horse make him pop right out of the picture. I love the shine and muscle on his shoulder, neck and legs. The Waylander is great too. His expression and pose are perfect. The detail on the saddle and bridle is wonderful. Very convincing. The fabric of the saddle looks very realistic. Looks like soft leather. The forest in the foreground and background is beautiful. I wish I could walk around inside it. I can just imagine the sights, sounds, and smells. Awesome work!!

Thanks..It was a joy to paint this one but was a pain in a few places at times and you can understand why it took a while..I'm happy how the horse turned out..looks better than I thought it would..but this photo doesn't do it justice..I'll take a better photo when we get some decent sunlight..Glad you like the saddle..it was a challenge at first but found some decent reference for detail..wanted to give it a medieval look and worn used look..The forest is my favourite part of the painting and has temped me to do more landscapes..probably will if I get chance this year..
And thanks for the fav..much appreciated.

Great things take a little time. I bet in person this is beyond beautiful.
Excellent thinking on the worn saddle!
It's nice to see you try to think of everything when painting. I love those little details. That's what makes a piece so convincing.

I love the depth you've captured in the forest and the hazy light in the distance. It's such a peaceful setting, but at the same time very dramatic because of the anxiety and caution shown in the face and pose. The horse is gorgeous too. Great job.
