Some Trivia about the creation of PMDTA now that it’s finished (There’s a LOT of trivia)
Skip and Flame are based on the characters when I played PMD red rescue team. Alan is based on the absol that shows up in the storyline.
Eon Inn was the first place I designed, and I designed it in one try. The Eon Inn you see in all the chapters is the first and only design created. The other places I designed needed some fine tuning though.
Vapoure and Jolt’s personalities were originally supposed to be switched. Early concept art of PMDTA had a jolly nature Vapoure and a Serious Nature Jolt. I switched them because my two younger brothers objected to their personalities. Flare has the same personality in all the concept art though.
I designed treetop town before I was aware of Fortree City’s existence. Violet town is based on Lavender Town, though.
Magmaflow City was originally called Magmagflow Town. I changed it to a city because I thought a town would be too small to have a mall in it. It took me a while to get used to saying Magmaflow City instead of Town though.
Val was supposed to have a scene where she sings of wanting adventure in the great wide somewhere. (Because this comic is full of references). This would have been sometime between the end of chapter 4 and the start of chapter 5 and take place on the ash fields surrounding Magmaflow City. (But you know, chapter 4 ended at night and Chapter 5 started literally the next morning, so that never happened.)
There was supposed to be a scene where Skip tries to use Flame’s shower but the shower sprays fire instead of water. It didn’t really contribute to the plot and I couldn’t figure out where to insert it, so it was never made.
Grace wasn’t intended to be the cousin of Flare, Jolt and Vapoure. They were originally supposed to be unrelated to each other, which is why nobody mentions their relationship in chapter 6
The two missing Eon’s were first created in chapter 6, so any hints of their existence started there.
Lucky originally wasn’t supposed to exist. You may have noticed that he just randomly shows up near the end of chapter 6. Even Grace was confused by his sudden appearance. Originally, Larry was going to show up and get confronted by Skip and the others. He was also supposed to be the one that burned down the Snow Motel. But I thought Larry was getting kinda repetitive at this point. I still wanted Team Brambles to tie in somehow, so I added Lucky as a sort of go between so that Skip didn’t have to interact directly with Larry. Of course, after I created him, I had to weave a backstory and incorporate him into the plot. He is, in part, the reason why Team Brambles used to be part of the guild, and why Alan and Aster used to be part of their team.
More about Lucky. This was unintentional, but Lucky’s scarf is the same style as Alan’s scarf, to show how he looked up to Team brambles. His clothing also has the same color scheme as Hope.
There was supposed to be a chapter centered in Dogwood Village and Cattail town where Skip and Flame would get into a disagreement and essentially split up angry at each other. Skip would have gone to Dogwood Village, while Flame would have gone to the neighboring Cattail Town. The plan was for the two towns to be in a feud with each other. (Cats and dogs) The chapter didn’t get developed that much, but somehow was supposed to involve a treasure. I also thought of putting some Romeo Juliet elements in it. The chapter was never made because I didn’t know where to insert it.
The Krokoroc and the Heliolisk that showed up in chapter 3 and later in chapter 9 were supposed to be the ones behind the incident at Electree City. They would have been the ones that developed the machine part that exploded. I wasn’t able to incorporate that into the story, since they hijacked the Magmaflow Radio Station instead of the Electree Powerplant.
At one point, I thought of making the legendaties Entei, Raikou, and Suicune instead of Moltres, Zapdos, and Articuno, but since the 3 cities (Icegem, Magmaflow, and Electree) were ice, fire, and electricity themed, I thought that the birds would suit it better.
There was supposed to be a scene when Vapoure and the others were infiltrating the radio tower when everyone was locked out of the recording room except for Posy. She would then have to report the situation to the entire Tayga region by herself. There was also supposed to be a scene where Vapoure gets stuck in a water dispenser. Both scenes were scrapped though.
I debated weather I should show Trevor in the last page of PMDTA, as he will be a character in the planned sequel. Eventually, I decided to show him, so you all have something to look foward to.
