Usually they hit the brakes and/or try to get around you.
I got fishtailed by an opponent when I was racing in the R3 endurance race and I tapped another car lightly without any damage. I always try avoid a crash.

hey you know what is funny, twice in a race i was able to bounce ff the tire walls without damaging my car (internally or exteriorly) and one in the R1 championship hitting it at like 150k's
