Description
Here is a piece I did last year for the Gamers for Good KKG art book -Β www.gamersforgood.com/KKG-Artbβ¦I chose to recreate the opening scene of Final Fantasy 6 (3) where Terra, Biggs and Wedge are infiltrating Narshe. My main goal was to flesh out an accurate rendition of the game's Magitek armor with the added bonus of needing to improve at environments and atmosphere. There is a lot that I am proud of here but even more that I wish I was better at! Such is life!
Overall the process of working on a piece that represented one of Kevin's favorite games along with over a hundred other extremely talented artists was really moving and humbling - and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

That's amazing! Your magitek layout is different and great!
By the way, I have a tumblr dedicated to FFVI: finalfantasyvi.tumblr.com
If you agree on it, I would like to post your fanart there, with all credits and links, including Gamers for Good initiative link.Β
Would you be ok with that?

This is fantastic! I always preferred the in-game version of the armor over the concept art version. Absolutely love how you depicted them here!
I especially like the legs. Many envision them as reverse jointed, but I never really agreed. Also, the retractable claws are a great touch.

thank you! im really glad you picked up on all the little things i had to construct with pixel and fan art
when i set out to do this piece i was so focused on the mechanics that i forgot i kinda suck at people so that let me down a bit... but yeah, the magitek was my first goal so its so fantastic being able to talk about the details with those who notice!

Thanks! The Magitek is perhaps my most favorite mecha, so I love to study its details!
A long time ago, I stumbled across a couple of images from some game(?) that actually realized the in-game M-tek armor into a 3D model. Literally just now I finally found out what it was from: a Japanese-only bonus disk for the PS1 that included content galleries from the first 6 games. Here's a video of the 3D vehicles section, with the Magitek armor at the very end!

I think the main reason so many people feel the legs must be reverse jointed is because of how low the mech seems to ride along the ground. Even the stubbiest of legs jut wouldn't look right. It's really interesting to see how they worked that out in the model from this video.

well THIS would have been helpful - but it isn't fully accurate to the sprites, so im at least glad i got a lot of guess right - legs being one of them! It's incredible what people put on youtube and im really really glad you had this in mind and could find it!
