Description
Unfortunately, DA's being a jerk and not letting me upload this properly. You can find the full version here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=np-89o… (GIF version doesn't have the music and the colours are weird. Plus I had to kill the image quality so the file wasn't too bigMy entry for Dorapz 's contest! Outside of class assignments, this is probably the biggest animation I've ever made! I've used all the skills I needed to make this separately on occasion, but this was my first time attempting something like this.
I'm a fan of My Hero Academia, so when I saw this contest ( fav.me/dd611el ) I had the idea to animate an epic mock-up anime scene for my entry. I wanted to make a cool animation of Esmeralda using her metal manipulation quirk. I didn't think it was actually going to happen, but here we are! It's not perfect, but I put a huge amount of time and effort into it and I'm really happy with the end result!
I've never been much good at drawing in an anime style, but luckily this BNHA style guide had me covered: aminoapps.com/c/my-hero-academ…
I don't think I got the art style 100% accurate, but I think my results are passable all things considered!
Another big challenge was drawing the background! Backgrounds are a big weakness of mine, so drawing one in the BNHA style was tough. I used a lot of references from the show to try and get it right. I'm not sure if it came out ok, so I guess I'll just have to see what other people think~! It's supposed to be the arena from the provisional licence test with the ground all smashed up.
Of course, it wouldn't be animating if a million things didn't go wrong during the animation process, but I managed to iron out most of the problems. As for the ones I couldn't fix - you'll have to find those yourselves

Cool entry! By the way, I remember when videos were starting to get popular on dA. After some time they had to limit it because of copyright issues (people started uploading AMVs and other stuff with unlicensed music background). I guess now you have to be core to upload videos...

Ah, makes sense... perhaps I should look into getting core if I want to post more animations! Thanks for taking the time to explain to me ^^

Thanks! I made this with the intention of being a video, so I'm afraid I can't help you with your colour problems - I didn't do anything special, just exported it as a GIF. I have found certain programs make better GIFs than others though - perhaps try exporting your animation as a video or image sequence and converting that to a GIF in another program?
As for software, I drew this in Photoshop, but all the animation was in After Effects.

Yep! I exported it as a GIF via media encoder.
