I hate this picture of me, but it was a proud moment I wanted to share. The actor, Akira Takarada, who is an accomplished Japanese actor and the starred in scores of films, many of which were Godzilla or other kaiju type movies, was in the model display room looking at my models. I greeted him and told him I was the one that built them. He shook my hand warmly, and asked another G-Fest attendee to take our picture by my big Godzilla model. He was a wonderful person. And, he loved my models!!Also, Bin Furuya, best known as the original Ultraman, but also played Ultra 7, was given the coveted Mangled Skyscraper award this year for his contribution to the kaiju genre. At the awards banquet, we playfully serenaded him with the Ultraman Theme song, and gave him a warm welcome. He was so touched, he cried. He said in Japanese, that he is 69 years old, but he has never felt this way before. It was a touching moment.
I also briefly visited with Robert Scott Field again, he starred as Android M-11 in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, and he is as nice a guy as you could imagine. He has helped a lot in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in early 2011.
Yes, I am a nerd. I admit it. Proudly.

Nerds and geeks rule!!! Look at the top movies for the last 10 or more years, and tell me it isn't so. What are the top 2 movies so far this summer? Batman and the Avengers. How big a deal is the San Diego Comic Con? How big is Bill Gates and Paul Allen? I rest my case. 
This is SOOOOOOO great that you got to meet this fine gentleman and Robert Scott Field too! Your big Godzilla here is an incredible piece of art!!! 
I've had my own geek/nerd moments when I gotten to see, meet, and do many of the things I've done, and people I've met. (think my own geek time at the EMERGENCY! Station 51 reunion I went to last year.) It is a totally cool thing to meet and see for real the things and people we've seen in the movies and on TV that we each figure we'd never, ever get to see for real. I'm very happy and proud for you here!

I hope Akira comes back next year. G-Fest 20. I'm guessing it will be huge for next year.
I have a bit on Akira's session in my journal if your interested. I posted it yesterday.
I hope Megumi Odaka can come back. Someone who was at G-fest 2000 told me of the experiences. not many went to her panel because a movie was scheduled at the same time, and most went to the movie. That sucks. I'd have stuck around to hear what she had to say. I hope she returns someday, if her health is doing better as in 2008 I asked Robert Scott Field about her and he told me she had some heart problems back then. I hope she is doing better now.
The way you describe Bin Furuya is just like how Kenji Sahara reacted in 2009. He got very emotional from the warm welcome he was given by the fans.

Have you considered a diorama based on a fanfic or one of the films? This model you made would fit well for a G-fest diorama. The hotel to scale in front of Godzilla.

it would be hard to come up with accurate buildings that would look recognizable..
but, no I think I will leave the big guy on his Japan base.

This is just amazing! First off, that's an amazing model you have in the background and what's even more awesome is that you have a picture of you, the model, and Akira Takarada all in the same photo! You should frame this and hang it in your house somewhere. The amount of honor and pride you must have been feeling was probably through the roof! Congrats!

OMG!! This is so unbelievable! The professor! He is such a cool guy. I remember him in Final Wars. That's the only movie I remember him in. But this is just truly amazing, You getting to meet him. I am so happy and proud of you Legrandzilla! I want to be just like you when I get older!
