I hate this picture of me, but it was a proud moment I wanted to share. The actor, Akira Takarada, who is an accomplished Japanese actor and the starred in scores of films, many of which were Godzilla or other kaiju type movies, was in the model display room looking at my models. I greeted him and told him I was the one that built them. He shook my hand warmly, and asked another G-Fest attendee to take our picture by my big Godzilla model. He was a wonderful person. And, he loved my models!!
Also, Bin Furuya, best known as the original Ultraman, but also played Ultra 7, was given the coveted Mangled Skyscraper award this year for his contribution to the kaiju genre. At the awards banquet, we playfully serenaded him with the Ultraman Theme song, and gave him a warm welcome. He was so touched, he cried. He said in Japanese, that he is 69 years old, but he has never felt this way before. It was a touching moment.
I also briefly visited with Robert Scott Field again, he starred as Android M-11 in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, and he is as nice a guy as you could imagine. He has helped a lot in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in early 2011.
