Oh I actually just take random fabric with the closest colour from my reference picture. Mine is not perfect at all, I hide all the imperfections and just focus on the one that matters ahahhaa no one knoooowss no oneee. Good luck!

Make all of it! It's worth it . The sword belongs to my dad and it's a real sword and always been on the wall for years and I just realize that it's perfect for photoshoot I think he got it when a chinese martial arts/circus came to perform and sell souvenirs..

It is perfect I've been puzzling over how to make the sword. Paper mache , bamboo cane and board won't do it this time (I made my sword of Shan Yu out of them) because it needs to fit into the scabbard perfectly. I have found a wooden toy sword online that I could paint up. It's not perfect but it'll have to do unless I can find something else.

Just found that Tai Chi swords look exactly like yours I'll have to get a wooden one mind because of the whole 'weapon' issue but I've got that sorted now
