Description
OMG I just realized something. I just love this couple and can't get evough of them. This is the best couple ever. I love China X Russia so much that I am going to do a whole series of them and when I get enough pics I am going to make a video for the song China Girl by David Bowie and Iggy Pop. With the exception that when scanned Russia's skin came out too pink, I love this pic. It has to be the best pic I've ever done in my life. I think all the hours I have spent on LIfe Drawing are well worth it.Related content

Oh sorry, I must have forgotten what I was submitting to since I
joined so many general Hetalia and RoChu groups. You guys can go ahead and take it out.

They both look really cute together and I love how you did their skin, especially China's! I'm sick of everyone making the Asians lighter than the Caucasians when really, it's the other way around 90% of the time.

Thanks so much. I get flamed a lot because I insist on making Yao darker than Ivan but I'm not comfortable making their skin the exact same color.

You're very welcome Actually, you are correct for making Yao and the other Asians darker than Russia and the rest of the gang. It's funny how everyone complained about the African countries being whitewashed as well as the Southern Europeans (like both Italies, Greece, and Spain), yet nobody realizes that the Asians aren't supposed to be milky white either. The problem is, in most anime, since they make almost EVERY character pale, especially the ones who are supposed to be Asian, everyone thinks that's how Japanese, Chinese, and all sorts of other Asians should look in anime. Hopefully I don't sound racist, but I've seen, met, and know many Asians offline who aren't the least bit pale at all, in fact; most of the Asians I know in real life have a golden tan or bronze color. Even my Korean stepdad is golden tan.
The real reason for this kind of thing is the fact that many Asian cultures(China and Japan especially) believe that pale skin is much more beautiful than any other type (it's a beauty thing), to the point where many Asians have spent tons of cashola on skin lighteners and bleaching surgeries, many of which result in facial disfigurement and skin diseases. Heck, even in Japan, companies will hire a full Caucasian girl or a half Caucasian girl for their ads instead of a full Japanese girl. To top it off, the fact that a lot of Japanese anime characters are pale only adds to this predicament. I haven't drawn much Hetalia art yet, but I'm definitely gonna make China and the other Asians the appropriate skin tones as well as the same for everyone else ^^

That's crazy. I think that their natural color is beautiful. I guess it's the same thing with African Americans and their hair texture and
caucasians and their weight. It's like everybody's trying to reach an impossible standard of beauty. Just because Michael Jackson bleached his skin doesn't mean the rest of the world has to.

May I feature/point this out on my journal as an example of what I think is outstanding coloring/color harmony? This is where I hope to one day be with my ability to color, and color skin specifically without making it all look the same.

While you say the skin on the male turned out too pink, I think it makes for a lovely contrast between the two!

I thought so, but I didn't want to assume. Assuming = bad, but it's probably just as incorrect to assume what I did, anyway.... so yeah, I won't assume stuff. But all the same, you did an amazing job; your skills are growing in absolute leaps and bounds, my friend, and your grasp on color theory, harmony and coordination is simply amazing! I would do obscene things to make my skin tones come out as well as yours did in this piece.
