This is the Mos  focus of a two-part illustration also with Duill  from a story taking place within the same world as Emerald Guardian but a thousand or so years in the past. Both Duill and Mos have undergone some character design changes since I last drew them, but not too major.

Below is an excerpt from the beginning of the story as well as the inspiration for the illustrations.

Excerpt:

How many years had he watched from the branches of this tree? Mos had lost count at this point, not that it mattered. What mattered was the joy that just watching from afar brought him. The festive music laced the air, as if coming from nature itself. The trilling voices cheered and laughed as the fae danced among the moss-laden grass, their movements like the fluttering of leaves within the wind.

It was this that kept him going. The only qualm he had was that he could not join. But if he was so much as spotted it would spell a promised death. He was risking much just by dwelling within a tree so close.

But it was worth it, it wasn’t like he had anyone to go back to if he was killed. So, to Mos, the risk was enough.

There was always one fae in particular that caught his eye, one that made his heart flutter, unlike anything else did. The fae prince’s auburn hair shon like polished copper in the waxing light, his bright smile like the stars. In truth, it wasn’t just the fae festival that Mos enjoyed…it was watching the happiness of this prince who shined like polished amber.

At the same time though Mos felt guilty, just watching from the shadows like this. He knew he only felt this way towards the Prince because he’d saved his life when he’d first been exiled from his colony many years ago.

Mos had been tossed from the village, broken and terrified. And by unfortunate chance had stumbled into fae territory. The fae rangers would have killed him had it not been for the Prince’s intervention. He didn’t share the same scorn on his face for Mos as the rangers did. He wondered how a fae, especially the prince, could have such a compassionate moment for a goblin.

But that moment was years ago, even if he did show himself the prince would not remember him. And Mos found himself unable to stray far from where the fae prince dwelled; one of the few people who’d shown him compassion. He’d become quite adept at slipping past the guards and rangers, his once clumsy feet eventually able to propel him from branch to branch with ease without so much as a disturbed leaf.

As content as he was…if there was one thing he wished for…was a dance with the prince, to see him up close, hear his laughter and gaze upon his smile.

Mos could die happy then. But he knew it was only a dream.
