Show: Alfkak Mythology Event extended OPEN
Class: Bareback Race
Horse: Tlaloc's Tormenta   (Proof:  sta.sh/comments/61/8qo7qoqzgb/… )
Rider: Kelin Maradar

Kelin left the first aisle of the ornate outdoor stable with crossed arms, looking ever so slightly pissed off. As he turn the corner onto the next aisle, another reffined head of an Alfkak poked its nose out of its stall with a snort. People bustled throughout the areas, placing their tags on the doors of the horses they would like to borrow for the breed show. Kelin had begun the day in a rather foul mood, finding his first choice has been scooped up seconds before he'd arrived. Therefore, Kelin continued to look over the remaining mounts with a critical eye, still not finding the "look" on their faces that he wanted. He didn't care about size, color, gender or anything like that. All he wanted was a horse that spoke to him. The Mythology Event was supposed to be fun after all! Coming to a distant island and competing on a very rare and special breed? It was exaclty Kelin's cup of tea yet it was already not going as planned.
Kelin crossed a path over to another area of stalls, relieved that it was quieter, people having not spread out this far to view the horses yet. Rubbing the back of his neck with a sigh, Kelin approached what felt like the hundredth stall today, raising his eyebrow as the sun caught the silver gleam of a tall stallion inside. If he was chosing for looks, this horse could very well be the one! Unfortunately, he needed  more. Clicking his tongue, the stallion raised his head from his hay, perking his ears and staring down Kelin with an icy blue gaze.

"I think you'll do" Kelin murmered, his decision made. He looked at the tag on the door. "Tlaloc? Funny name..."

With a shrug, Kelin brushed his hand along the stallion's velvety nose and hung his own ID tag on the stall door, claiming this horse as his mount.

Later in the afternoon, with many of the competitors happy with their choices, the fields had filled with people quickly getting to know their new horses. Kelin had shined up Tlaloc, pleased that while quiet for a stallion, he still danced around a bit and showed some fire. Kelin guessed just by looking at the horse that he was fit and ready for the athletic events. Training was another matter... Kelin hoped the horse was a bit more than green. Placing the tack he had brought along on the straight back, Kelin unclipped Tlaloc from his ties, leading him out towards a nearby field where a good fifteen other riders were putting the unfamiliar horses through their paces. Standing off to the side, Kelin gathered his reins.

"Alright, Locke old boy. Lets make eachother look good."

Tlaloc flipped his mane, bobbing his head as if he agreed and Kelin let out a breath, mounting swiftly, settling down with a light seat. Tlaloc arched his neck danced a bit to the side, clearly glad to be out of his stall. Kelin firmed up his connection to the stallion, impressed at how responsive he seemed without a bit. With a flowing stride, the pair headed out into the field, joining the other competitors in the area. In observing the other horses, Kelin felt happy with his choice, feeling confident he had picked out one of the gems of the lot. With a slight signal, he asked Tlaloc for a trot and the stallion sprung forward with a powerful gait, his legs eating up the ground. Kelin sat up straighter, wondering if this horse would be good at dressage. He certainly felt like a bit of a showoff, astride such a lovely animal. Kelin's mind wandered for only a moment and before he knew it, he was smashing into a ground with a mouthful of dust. Looking up through blurry eyes, he watched his stallion's silver butt dissapear into the distance, showing off his gorgeous canter without his silly rider. Kelin moaned and rolled over onto his back.

"I wonder if anyone saw that..."

The next morning, as the sun rose over the land, Kelin sat bareback astride Tlaloc. After teaching him a lesson, the stallion had been sweet as a kitten and Kelin understood that the animal needed respect if he wanted to be partners. Kelin rolled his shoulder with a sigh, still pretty sore from his spill yesterday afternoon. The other competitors had been poking fun at him but he knew that experience had solidified his bond with Tlaloc. Now he knew what the horse needed from him. Running his hand over Tlaloc's tall crest, Kelin smiled a bit.

"Just wait till we show them what we've really got. They ain't seen nothing yet!"

Many people were lined up around him, all sitting on fit, beautiful Alfkaks, however Kelin already felt he would not trade his mount for the whole lot of them. The starter's tape was drawn up in front of them. The horses danced in place or reared in anticipation. The air began to buzz with more intensity as riders yelled to eachother, horses whinnied and the long, dusty path stretched out before them. For a split second, everyone froze and the starter dropped the tape, sending them off. With a huge leap, Tlaloc surged forward, poking his muzzle out past the others. Kelin, sat still as possible, giving his horse his head, knowing that though the race was long, a strong start could break some of the weaker competitors.  Yelling encouragment to Tlaloc, Kelin gave him more rein and his strides lengthened even further, hardly touching the ground. The wind tore tears from Kelin's eyes as he looked back behind him, watching the horses around him begin to eat his dust...
