The sun is setting, and opposition is just rushing towards him just like an oncoming wave of water. But still he stands there unfazed. As a warrior he is mentally and physically able to withstand an oncoming rush of water that would just sweep away a lot of other people. So as a warrior he is not influenced by numbers, or bigness of his enemy. Even when the sun is setting and night is on it's way, he still stands to face his enemy. So a battle can be on the verge of ending badly, but he will still fight his enemy unfazed by loss and defeat. This picture kind of reminds of an anime and historic character named Toshizo Hijikata.
But seeing how the sun is red and a circle, it really hints at some aspect of what it means to be Japanese. In some ways, this picture is a display of what makes a man Japanese.
This would have been a good picture to have in a dorm room while going to college. Again, emphasis in this picture is on mental and physical discipline and bearing; staying focused and ready no matter how bad you're circumstances are. This picture is concrete while also being conceptual at the same time.

The line is the ink, the color was done with the markers
