“YOU INSUFFERABLE, SNEAKY, LITTLE BEAST!!!” I growled, having the filthy little vermin’s head underneath my feet.

‘YOU HAVE ABOUT 3 SECONDS TO TELL ME WHO YOU ARE, AND HOW IN THE WORLD YOU GOT IN HERE!!”

The Joltik squeaked and wiggled around, trying to free himself from my grasp. But this little pest wasn’t going to get away that easy, NO sir!

“FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LADY, TAKE IT EASY!” He shouted back underneath me. “THE KID WAS GIVING OFF ELECTRICITY, I COULDN’T RESIST IT MAN, LET ME GO!”

“And why should I? hm?” I answered. “I still don’t have a name you little creaton!”

The Joltik growled and stopped wiggling. “It’s Surge, I was looking for my partner, thought it was him, now let. Me. GO!”

Not wanting too, I lifted my foot anyway, releasing the Joltik whose name was apparently Surge.

He scrambled around and quickly climbed on top of Forte’s head, which sent me back on the defensive, but Forte groaned and put a paw up.

“Please stop.” He said. “Too much noise….”

I blinked at him, and then looked back at Sammy, who just shrugged at me a bit. “Okay then…Surge.” I started out, staring intently at the Joltik. “What in the world led you to think that you’d find your partner here of all places?”

The Joltik started to speak, but coughed a bit. I think I must have put a little too much weight on his little body.

He cleared his throat stood up straight, and started to speak.

“Alright look babe, I wasn’t trying to make a mess or anything, but you see, I’m looking for this little kid named Tango. He’s a Shinx and while we were napping he was all up and gone! Friggin’ left without me that lousy scatterbrain! So I came around here trying to find him until I picked up a juicy amount of electricity coming from somewhere. So I follow it to this place and well…here I am on this guys head suckin’ up electricity.”

“Well that’s rude of you to just barge in here!” I told him, stepping forward. “Don’t you know he’s sick right now?!”

“Course I do! Why do you think I’m on here in the first place?!” he responded. “He’s sick cuz’a electrical buildup! He’s kind of a feeding frenzy right now you know, ain’t my fault I can’t resist the urge, it’s instinct!”

Surge gave a small pout, and grumbled to himself. Forte gave a small tired smile however.

“It’s actually been making me feel better Rita.” He said, a little happily, yet still tired. “If it’s helping I don’t think it’s too bad, maybe we should let him stay or something…at least until I don’t feel so grumpy.”

Of course, I protested to it, but Forte gave me that kind of look that just made me stop in my tracked. I sighed, and backed down. After all I WAS supposed to help Sammy find her letter….but then I got a little idea in my head for our little unwanted guest~.

“Say Surge~?” I asked, catching his attention as he gave me a funny look.

“Yeeeeeah?”

“Would you like to make a small bit of a deal with me then~?” I asked, with a small wag of my own tail.

“Eh…sure…what’ya proposing?”

I explained to him that if he wanted to stay and help Forte out with his little problem, then he’d have to baby sit him until my return. At least by then Forte could have been cured of his little sickness right? He was relatively small, but I was sure he could suck up a good amount of Forte’s build up.

Surge starting to think, rubbing his chin a small bit. He groaned again, looked at me, groaned some more, looked down at Forte, then flopped onto his own stomache.

“Okay fine, ya got a deal, but you better hurry!” He told me. “I’m not gonna wait all day if you’re slow, that kid’s and idiot, he’ll probably get himself in trouble or something. So shake those buns and move it alright?”

I would have burned the little creep right then and there…but I remained calmed, and simply stuck my nose up at him.

“We’ll be back when we come back. Now come along Samantha.”

The Zangoose again grimaced, and as she followed me out, she once again said “Sammy.” Then followed me out the door.

--------------------------------------

Samantha and I looked for what seemed a good hour for her letter. We checked every nook and cranny of the village and even went back to the briefcase for it to be all for naught.

“We mustn’t give up!” I said confidently as we continued our search “There must be someone around here who just made a huge mistake! We’ll get’em, and then you’ll have your letter to ease your worries!”

Samantha of course, had been rather silent the whole time, only occasionally speaking to those we assumed at the wrong letter. And even if they did, they didn’t belong to Sammy as none of the authors of the letters was from her partner Curtus, who was supposedly a Panpour.

We looked around for about maybe thirty more minutes before we decided it was just time to take a break.

Silence fell between us for a while. It was either because she didn’t know what to say, or she really had nothing to say.

But I was still confident about finding that letter of hers! So while we sat, I started to speak about the places that we maybe hadn’t checked yet. We still didn’t go the Rescuer’s HQ, and there were some places away from the village that I knew other’s lived. If we got around those areas, I was certain we’d find something.

But as I continued speaking, Samantha suddenly put up one of her large blue paws, cutting me off from speaking any further.

“You talk too much, you know that?” She grumbled at me. “Look…. it doesn’t matter. I told you before, he doesn’t even know how to write, so I doubt he’d make me anything.” She said, turning away as she started to wipe at one of her eyes a little.

“I’m…sure he’s fine…I’m sure he’s okay. He took care of himself even before he met me…I have faith in him…”

She sniffled a bit, and upon a closer look, I do believe I saw a single tear roll down her eyes as she was looking away from me.

The poor thing, she was even beginning to tremble a bit. This whole thing was hard on everyone, but it seemed like she was taking it a little harder…maybe even trying to suppress her feelings.

At the moment, I guess I started to admire Samantha’s strength for staying strong. Of course, I hadn’t known her for very long, and I knew of her rivalry with Piano from whenever the little hothead had spoken of the Zangoose, but even the strong one’s had their moments right?

“It’s okay dear.” I told her, hopping up a bit. It only made her turn away more. I guess she didn’t want me to see her at her weakest.

“I’m sure you’re right…your partner is doing well, and staying strong….do you want to stop the search then?”

She didn’t reply with words, but only nodded. I smiled back and sat back down in the grass underneath us. “Well then, I guess we’ll just enjoy the scenery, hm?

Again she nodded, and simply stared into the distance.

The wind blew a little gently as we sat there, just collecting thoughts.

Now that I thought about it, I wondered how Piano was doing…and if she was okay during her little adventure in the past. I didn’t get to read her letter of course, I’m sure it would cheer Forte up once he finally read it.

As we relaxed, I saw a figure out of the corner of my eye. I turned their way to see a Dewott with a brown tattered scarf holding a sheet of paper. She must have noticed that knew I knew was there, because she stepped back a small bit, but immediately took a step forward afterward.

“Excuse me.” She said. This caught Samantha’s attention as well, as she was disturbed from her small trance.

“Um..I was told by a friend I’m staying with to uh…give this too a blue Zangoose…. I’ve been searching around…and well, I have this for you…if you want to take it.”

That certainly seemed brightened Samantha’s day! Her eyes widened, and her ears just lifted right on up, beckoning the Dewott forward and taking the letter from her paws as she did.

“Thank you ever so much dear!” I told her with a smile. She simply nodded, and looked up at her recipient.

Samantha simply stood there, and within second she began to smile.

“This is definitely from him.” She said with a small laugh. “I recognize these scribbles of his anyway…. smells like him too.”

I hopped onto her back again to see what she was looking at.

Before me was a familiar drawing, that had the scribbled words “Always”…. ~
