Description
Our only extant native owl, the Morepork is related to the Australian Boobook. It is a small, compact owl with a distinctive two note call - "ruuu-ruuu" (or "mooor-poooork" depending on your imagination). Like most owls, Morepork are nocturnal, coming out at night to hunt for grubs and insects - also the occasional bird or mammal. They inhabit forested areas and avoid areas that are too dry.'This fellow is going to wing his way to Finland.
