Without at least the simplest mention of Ben Parker, MCU Peter Parker is merely a fraction of what makes him Spider-Man.

I actually prefer the elderly Aunt May. That looks almost like his mother (if alive).

I'm not even comfortable looking at a super model Aunt May. Everyone's used to Aunt May being 60 so it's still weird Tony flirting with her, plus in this universe Uncle Ben died like maybe less than a year ago.

No problem. Different opinions

SoullessArtLover In reply to streak663 [2016-11-14 02:07:48 +0000 UTC]

Marisa Tomei has about 8 years until that happens. And what are the odds she's able to tell the man's flirting with her? Some people are oblivious to these things.

TuxedAaron [2016-07-09 22:23:57 +0000 UTC]

You know, I've been saying this for a while now.  Why do they keep making Aunt May younger and younger with every new iteration? I mean, we went from Rosemary Harris in the Raimi films to Aunt May in Spectacular Spider-Man (granted, she wasn't ACTUALLY young in that series, but because of the cartoonish character designs, she LOOKED young) to Sally Field in the ASM movies and then to the Ultimate Spider-Man Aunt May (who, except for the white hair, looks like she's in her late 30s/early 40s). But NOW, I think we've crossed a line, somewhere. I mean, I get that Marisa Tomei isn't exactly a spring chicken anymore, but come on! She looks younger than I do in this movie (and I'm not an old man, by ANY stretch of the imagination). And when they've even got Tony tossing out one-liners as to how out-of-place she looks in this role, that should be saying SOMETHING, don't you think?

Just sayin'. Juuuuust sayin'.

This IS a well-drawn picture though. ^_^

nerdtopia In reply to TuxedAaron [2016-07-12 19:26:34 +0000 UTC]

Have you ever considered the possibility that maybe Marisa was casted because, realistically, she's the appropriate age to be an aunt to a teenager?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TuxedAaron In reply to nerdtopia [2016-07-12 21:02:45 +0000 UTC]

It's not that I didn't consider it.  But if that's the case, then it's more like she's an aunt in term's of being a sibling to one of Peter's parents, as opposed to the original model who was an Aunt to one of Peter's parents (which essentially, to Peter, makes her a GREAT Aunt).

Either way, my point was that she looks younger than I do in this movie and she's OLDER than me.  And then, of course, there were all the one liners that Tony threw in as well.

SoullessArtLover In reply to TuxedAaron [2016-11-14 02:06:04 +0000 UTC]

To the best of my knowledge, Ben and Richard Parker were always brothers in the comics, so Ben and May have always been his uncle and aunt as opposed to his great-uncle and great-aunt.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TuxedAaron In reply to SoullessArtLover [2016-11-14 14:06:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, they could probably get away with that now, given that every incarnation we've seen of May has gotten progressively younger with each new movie or animated series that's come out.  Initially, though, in the 60s, they seemed a little elderly for that sort of thing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SoullessArtLover In reply to TuxedAaron [2016-11-15 02:38:03 +0000 UTC]

I don't disagree that they seemed elderly for that sort of thing, but I think that's more a product of when they first created. People, in that time period, tended to look older. For example, if you look at Joseph Kearns, the actor who played Mister Wilson on the Dennis the Menace TV show in the 60s, he was 55 when he died. But, he certainly looked much older.

SoullessArtLover In reply to TuxedAaron [2016-11-16 03:37:26 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Ben and May could very well have been in their late 50s and we'd never have known.

TuxedAaron In reply to SoullessArtLover [2016-11-16 14:36:35 +0000 UTC]

SoullessArtLover In reply to TuxedAaron [2016-11-17 03:07:40 +0000 UTC]

And even if they were older than that, it's still a possible for them to be uncle and uncle instead of great-uncle and aunt.  Richard could've been 11 years younger than Ben (as I recall him being) and had Peter in his late-30s. My family is filled with stuff like this. I'm 30 and my youngest cousin is about a year old.

TuxedAaron In reply to SoullessArtLover [2016-11-18 15:36:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, in the original comics, great aunt and great uncle was always the impression I got, mostly because all my uncles and aunts are around the same age as my parents.

SoullessArtLover In reply to TuxedAaron [2016-11-19 04:09:00 +0000 UTC]

That's your experience. In my case, my mother has two sisters that are closer to her age, but her only brother is ten years younger than her. His youngest son was born when my mother was 50, so when's about Peter's age in the movie (15 if memory serves), my mother will be 65.

I don't mind it at all that they cast her as Aunt may. I guess I'm a little biased since I had a crush on Marisa Tomei when I was little. Hehehe!

L1701E In reply to TuxedAaron [2017-09-03 01:40:57 +0000 UTC]

To be fair, Marisa Tomei is in her 50s now. And they intended MCU Peter to be around 15 years old, so it is reasonable for a kid that age to have an aunt in their fifties.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TuxedAaron In reply to L1701E [2017-09-03 02:56:17 +0000 UTC]

Maybe, but that wasn't my point.  My point was that Marisa Tomei is older than me, but looks younger than I do.  And over the last 15 years, each incarnation of Aunt May has been getting gradually younger.  Hell, the Ultimate Spider-Man version of May looked like she was in her 30s.

Yes, the latest animated version of May is a little more "true to age", but is still ridiculously hot.

I don't know about that.  My great grandmother made it to 100, after all.

Besides, let's not forget all those drugs they advertise out there, many of which have side effects that are potentially WORSE than what they're supposed to be treating.
