Gorgeous photo! The DOF is perfect leaving the eye to wonder along all the wonderful detail in texture and composition that makes this piece so riveting. The colours seem even more vibrant set against the cool gray of the metal and the dust. The way they merge just out of line of focus draws the eye into the image. The entire photo has this feel of a precious aged artifact full of mystery and wonder.

Thank you! I ยดm very pleased with how I got this photo and how it turned out, so such thougtful comments are very welcome. I first tried more shallow dof, but then the context would have been much more blurred out and thus have a less impact - so I increased dof. I like that you have pointed out artifact resemblance.

I couldn't not comment. Your entire gallery is great, but this photo grabbed me the most. I like it for exactly those two qualities. I'll be watching out for more

Beautiful. I love the title. It really does look like a partially opened chess set box.

Good crop, the "box" makes a good frame at the top and bottom of the picture. I like grainy pictures in which the subject is something old or ancient. The title makes me think of soldiers during a battle...

I love it, the depth of field is amazing and the contrast of color is amazing; bright red dust right next to boring grey, wonderful.

Nice old charm from the rust. Good use of using the object as a frame.
