Description
Gal and Slin encounter someone on their way. Is it a friend or foe?The Dragon Unicorn - Chapter 05Another day dawned over the Forest. The chirping of birds, as the day before, reached Gal's ears, and the warm rays of the sun caressed his muzzle, waking him up. After opening his eyes, for a moment, he thought he was in the Unicorn Glade, but after a while the memories of the previous day's events broke through to his consciousness. - I guess I was right, Slin. - he said quietly. - Yesterday was indeed the day when something changed. Maybe even too much. Gal was surprised when he didn’t hear anyanswer to his reflections, since he always chatted with Slin in the mornings. He looked around but couldn't see her anywhere. Unicorn sprang to his feet and called out to his friend. Silence again. Then something hit him on the head and fell to the ground. Gallan looked at the mysterious object, which turned out to be... a berry. - Oh don't shout. I'm right here. Hearing his friend's voice, Gal breathed a sigh of relief and followed it. Walking through the trees, he smelled fresh berries from afar, and then saw Slin waving at him. - Have you forgotten that I'm the one looking for fruit bushes for breakfast? - Apparently so. - hereplied happily. - Then I'll remind you. Saying this, Slin threw another berry, hoping that it would fall on her friend's head again. Instead, he caught it on the fly and swallowed it with relish. - Let's eat and move on. - Gal said - We still have a long way ahead. › • ‹ Full of energy, the travelers wandered through the forest corridors. The leaves of the trees rustled softly and there were many fruit bushes around. Gal stumbled over the uneven ground that looked like something was digging in it, but he was too busy talking to Slin to notice. - Tell me - Siffa was saying - haven't you wondered, since now you know who you are and you've already managed to use fire once, maybe summoning and controlling your powers will be easier than you thought? - Summoning may be, but controlling. In the Tree of Birth, it was the power that controlled me rather than other way around. - You know what they say. Practice makes perfect. - Maybe, but until I figure out how to keep myself from going insane, I don't know if that's a good idea. - Remember that power suppression is no solution either. - Slin added. - Unicorns that do not use their magical potential are... incomplete. And it always has a negative effect on them. They languish, as if something was eating them from the inside, sometimes they change a lot, and sometimes they even... lose the will to exist. - I'm not the first unicorn with such a problem you've encountered, am I? - Gal asked. - Unfortunately not. - Slin turned away from Gallan, trying to hide the strong emotions and trembling of her little paws. - Siffa’s longevity provides me with many experiences. Not always pleasant, but often enlightening. Therefore, believe me, it is not worth suppressing the power. - I understand, Slin. But still, the vision of going crazy and destroying everything around seems even worse. Slin thought for a moment, considering his words, then added. - You’ll do as you please. I'm just afraid you may not have a choice. The power can show itself at any time. - Yes I know! - impatience and anger made themselves known in Gal’s mind. - For now, let's just go. Gal turned abruptly and continued his journey. For some time they walked through the forest in silence as the morning sun rose higher and higher. Slin’s thoughts kept going back to their conversation and she finally asked. - What about flying? - Sorry, what? - You know, if you learned to fly, we could reach the center of the Forest faster. - Slin smiled under her breath, hoping to motivate Gal this way. - Clever. But you know very well that I’ve tried… - he stopped suddenly. - Although... Dragon Unicorns don't have feathers on their wings... Before he could finish his thought, they heard something move quickly in the bushes. Soon after, a loud, shrill growl came from the same spot and began to move in their direction. Friends exchanged concerned glances then Gal began to look for an escape route. - We should check what it is, maybe it's nothing dangerous. - Slin said quickly. Gal was of a different opinion, but he hesitated for a moment, and that hesitation cost them their chance of escape. A moment later, something dark jumped out of the bushes on them. Gal jumped in front of Slin, trying to protect her. He couldn't and didn't want to use his powers, so instead he stood on his hind legs, spread his wings and began to flap them, hoping to scare away the opponent. The gust was much stronger and warmer than Gal had expected. It made leaves soar, set up a dust storm, and sparks flew from unicorn’s wings. When all ofhis hooves were on the ground again and the dust settled, Gal and Slin saw not a great beast, but a wild boar, as shocked as they were. After a while, white feathers began to fall to the ground around them like snow from the sky. There wasn't even one left on the unicorn's wings. Now his membranous, dragon wings appeared in all their glory and seemed much larger. Everyone was snapped out of their stillness by Slin, who suddenly sneezed, because one of the feathers brushed her nose. - For sweet raspberries’ sake! - the boar exclaimed. - I didn't think I'd meet a Dragon Unicorn today!,
