Description
Butterfree (Libertus. sp) – a genus of butterflies common in many biomes. The common butterfree (Libertus kantoniensis) is the most known species of the genus and is usually found on forests and woodlands. There are two subspecies of the common butterfree, the (Libertus kantoniensis kantoniensis) (c), with white-ish wings and purple exoskeleton and the pink butterfree (Libertus kantoniensis rosea) (e), which is pink colored as suggested by its name. Another species of this genus is the spotted butterfree (Libertus maculata) (d), a endemic tropical species of the Orange Archipelago.
The lifecycle of the genus is the typical Lepidoptera one, the caterpillar (a) which is also known as caterpie spend the whole life stage feeding to turn into a chrysalis, known as metapod (b), and finally emerging as an adult butterfree. There is a notable sexual dimorphism on this genus – females always lack the large dark markings on the second pair of wings.
The butterfree is a common pet for kids, who usually gather the larvae and keep them until the final form of the metamorphosis then releasing the adults.
