Description
Based on Theoretical Dog GeneticsAs a kid I remember being confused by the logic of dog genetics presented in cartoons. When two dogs had puppies, the boys looked like the dad and the girls looked like the mom. I can only guess that this lack of originality was an attempt to cash in on the new character's resemblance to an older character that had already won people over, but where's the fun in that? Being the animal nerd that I am, I wanted a realistic guide to prevent such blandness. How to use
Much of this has not yet been proven in studies with real dogs, so if you want to learn more about a real dog it is useful to research the specific breed or likely breeds that are in the dog's background.
Each locus is a spot which can hold two possible alleles out of any number present in the whole species. All together the alleles (genotype) give the final appearance (phenotype). To decide the appearance of offspring, give each parent a full list of genes to describe their appearance and "breed" them by randomly sele

Accepting Dog Breeding Suggestions
Now that I’m getting more comfortable with the style I’m using with these I thought I’d let people have a chance to make requests.
Required: Purebred x Purebred suggestion, I get to chose markings
2 photographic references, preferably with good detail so I can make out markings
Detailed descriptions of dogs, realistic traits only
or Any male and female already featured in the mixes I’ve done so far https://leonca.deviantart.com/gallery/34655327/Canine-Genetics-Guides-and-References
I'm not taking suggestions for wolves or hybrids since I haven't studied their genetic differences from dogs, and at the moment am not interested in adding that to the work I've already done.
Optional: Photos or descriptions of ancestors
Weight, if known

Both breeds have some interesting genetic variety. The Border Collie is especially fun since it probably has the most variation of any breed in color, coat, and ear types.

Such an interest mix! I've always wanted to see a dog that expresses brindle and merle at the same time, I wonder if these guys could lead to that possibility down the road? I dunno. I just think such a strange combination might be cool. ^_^

Yeah, I set it up so it would be possible here, but the random number selector I use didn't end up giving that pattern to any of them.

Oh well. Maybe next time the random number generator will be nicer! XD

Your dog art is always so adorable!
I've seen a puppy today who looked a lot like a corgi except more fluffy and the dark part of his coat had "tiger stripes" (kind of like that Staff in your picture). SO ADORABLE! I thought you'd be interested to hear that! I'm not really informed on corgi coats but now I'm wondering if the pup was a corgi or a mix breed with similar proportions (I've seen those too).
Kind of trying to talk my mother into FINALLY getting a dog within the next year or so, but I have no solid plan of what dog I want yet... still torn between getting a dog from a shelter or getting one of breeds that are supposedly easy to train and safe to keep around rats, since that would be my first dog.

Thanks.
The Cardigan Corgi can come in a brindle or striped coat.
Good luck. I'm not sure what breeds might go best with smaller pets like that. I've seen a video of a Bernese Mountain Dog which let a squirrel that lived in his house hide nuts under his fur.

Ooh, I see! Man, that puppy was AMAZING, though honestly I always fall for personality more than anything, seeing them run around and all...
Thanks! I have a small flat so I don't think it's right to get a HUGE dog in here (though I do love large breeds). I think Labrador is the largest dog I can reasonably keep here (and I love Labs and they tend to be friendly towards well anyone really, though mum might put her foot down and say it has to be a smaller dog, and I don't really want a TINY dog). Ehhh, I don't know, I go from STRESSING ABOUT THE FUTURE to thinking "it's high time I got a dog, I can't get to being 30 without a dog!"
