clutter!in the end, the composition looks a little messed up, but I couldn't bring myself to delete things or add more.
I used filter on the left side and lost the original picture... so now it looks all painted in a bad contrast to the right.
but I think the patterns were fun to do, overall.

i like the people better if they were separate from the rest of it. to me it just looks incongruous to the background. but i really like this a lot, it caught my eye.

ah, you have a good eye. the people were actually drawn first, and the designs, an afterthought. it does look a bit forced together.

haha I didn't use any sort of reference, so they're not really any sort of specific species.
I guess the bird on the left side looks like a parrot, the ones on the right are just made up. Smallish whale, eel, goldfish, swordfish, angelfish... maybe.
