Description
“I am ill with the obstinacy of images, reflections in cracked mirrors. I am a woman with Siamese cat eyes smiling always behind my gravest words, mocking my own intensity. I smile because I listen to the OTHER and I believe the OTHER.”Anaïs Nin, House of Incest.

That was actually the hardest part of taking this photo, reconstructing all those pieces of a shattered mirror... But it was worth all the pain!

did you every bleed while touching the glass?

Nope, luckily noone was hurt. But it was very difficult, because the pieces had to be perfectly in the right position.

Yes, only wondering, what makes it so creepy?

Well its partly the piercing wide open eye with such a tiny pupil mixed with the dark, broken, and scattered pieces of face that seem to be both coming together and breaking further apart at the same time.

Thanks for your comment! Would you like to see this even more scattered, or were you thinking of another way to get more variation?

i'm just thinking it'd look nice with the darker tones a colde color and the lihter tones warmer, maybe it could help the eyes stand out even more.. thank you (:

Ooh, this is quite interesting!
At first, I thought we were just seeing the person through ferns or something, you know? But then.. yeah, I really like how the piece draws us in and questions reality in whether this is actually its true form or not.
The expression is a bit insane, for me, or rather, I get the impression that it feels a bit insane... I like the focusing and how we are more focused on the reflection than the glass itself.
The composition is awesome and I like how you've managed to capture a bit of bokeh as well.
I don't really have any suggestions... I mean, it's a well executed shot and I like the perspective as well.

Sorry for the (very) late reply, but your thoughts are really interesting. We wanted to think a little about the things you've said, before giving you a reply. We especially like what you say about the reality that is questioned. With these words you've probably captured the essence of this picture. What you say about the insane expression is also very true; it's actually that feeling which we wanted to transmit through the photograph.
So thank you for your in depth comment, it's really appreciated.

Haha, just take some pieces of a broken mirror, organize them in a chaotic way, find exactly the right angle to shoot from, and be very patient during the whole process I guess it took us over an hour...

There is always something staring me back, but it is not just stare into the abyss and the abyss will stare back at you. No, it is more like mocking yourself, and then mocking the you that is mocking yourself, and then mocking yourself for mocking. It is just a circle. I agree, and the mirror does not even have to exist in order for this to take place.
I like the way you embodied that. I actually feel like I am staring back into the confines of my spirit where my crazy self lies. And I keep seeing the outlook no matter how broken the mirror is. It is and enchanting and alluring image.

Thank you for your beautiful comment! What you say sounds very familiar. I really like your sentence "it is more like mocking yourself, and then mocking the you that is mocking yourself, and then mocking yourself for mocking." It describes exactly how I feel, the circle of this whole process...
I think this image shows how we keep constructing ourselves out of a chaos of fragmented pieces. It was one of my favourite pictures of this photoshoot, because you keep looking at it, and while looking at it you cannot be a neutral observer anymore, you need to go the process this photo refers to. The process of this mocking, and mocking, and mocking. I'm really happy to see that someone took some time to go that process
