Description
Opening his eyes slowly, Let looked around to find himself in what must have been a world of utter darkness stretching on endlessly. The only discernible objects he could make out were little windows of light situated in midair high above in random places. The last thing he recalled doing was falling asleep in the bear dorm while waiting for Riz to arrive. Almost immediately, he could hear voices echoing out from every direction.Hey, where's No. 4?
Lost...
Find it! Now! That's unacceptable!
I only want No. 4!
"No. 4?" He looked ahead to see a small figure emerge from the darkness running toward him. From afar, it was impossible to make out, but when it got closer the human was able to see that it was a small deer child. The fawn saw him and slowed down as he approached, coming to a stop before him.
"Ahh, uhh..." The little one let out sounds as if trying to say something to the human, but was unable to speak words. He was dressed in very simple linen clothing that was a bit too big for him; they were akin to prison clothes without the typical stripes. The poor thing was also barefoot.
"Are you No. 4?" The human bent down to speak with the fawn at eye level.
"Ahh." He replied. Another voice suddenly spoke, as if narrating the entire scenario.
No. 4 was my product number. I was five years old then. On sale at the Black Market to be devoured alive.
"That voice...Louis?" Let recognized it instantly. He had met and befriended the red deer some time ago before his trek took him to Cherryton. Louis was the first person to extend his hand to him in kindness when the human originally arrived in the beast world. "Wait, if this is his past and I'm seeing it like this despite him never saying a word about it to me, then..."
"Ahh. Uhh." Child Louis gently tugged on the sleeve of Let's outfit to get his attention. He patted the little fawn on his head to show him he was listening.
"This has to be a Vision projection." Back in his world, Let had learned from his summoning course that it was possible for skilled Vision summoners to experience the actual events connected to those who could be called forth, such as seeing a soldier fighting in a war and witnessing his last moments or seeing an explorer embark on a expedition she never returned from. Normally, summoners cannot directly interfere or change what happened in those events no matter how much they may want to; all they can do is witness what transpired as an outside observer looking into a window, similar to experiencing another's dream. Let then looked to the small red deer.
"So then, how am I able to interact with you?" He asked. Child Louis tilted his head slightly, unsure of what the human was asking him. Before Let could could piece anything else together, the two of them were suddenly surrounded by strange shadowy creatures that appeared out of the darkness around them, their shapes resembling vicious beasts. They were eyeing the deer child with lurid eyes that screamed of ravenous hunger. The little fawn reared back in fear behind the human, letting out terrified cries at the sight of such things.
"Stay back!" Let shouted and began chanting a spell instantly, a small green light forming above his right index finger. "O winds of change, rend the destinies of my enemies to nothing. Aeroga!" He then directed the spell at the ground below him, ccreating a large whirling column of wind around the two of them; it grew to a towering size, its vacuous force pulling the creatures in before promptly expelling them with intense speed. As they were flung into the endless expanse of darkness around them, they vanished in defeat.
"Ahh..." The little deer was astonished at what he'd witnessed. Who was this mysterious person and what kind of power was that?
"Are you alright?" Let kneeled down to look him over and make sure he hadn't been hurt. He realized that those shadowy apparitions represented a key aspect to Louis's life related to the place they were in. There was only one problem though. "The fact my power can't make this place appear correctly is due to my lack of training."
Let mentally berated himself. The reason the location of the Vision projection and everything related to it appeared as formless darkness was because he had completed only the basic Vision summoning course back in his world. Due to the unexpected planetary armageddon that obliterated everything, he never had an opportunity to take the upper level courses and was unable to advance his training. Even one intermediate level course would have allowed his power to coalesce the location properly.
Selling live herbivores was considered taboo even on the Black Market. This store was in an inconspicuous location, but it occupied an entire building. And the customers kept on coming.
The older Louis's voice rang out again. Let looked above and listened carefully as the narration continued. The red deer's tone was detached and neutral as he continued to speak of the horror that composed his childhood.
We were held underground. Carnivore customers waited on the second floor.
We weren't taught to speak, let alone how to read and write. But we all knew we were going to die when we went upstairs.
Let was visibly disturbed by what he was hearing. Child Louis gestured and pointed in the direction directly behind them. Of course, it looked to Let like he was pointing into nothing but a black void, but clearly there was something there and he wanted to go toward it. The human nodded and picked up the little fawn, holding him comfortably on his arm.
"Very well then. You point the way and I'll take you there." Let said with a reassuring smile. The two set off into the surrounding darkness, the human guided by the deer child.

Another superb commission I got from the wonderful for my ongoing idea of being in the Beastars world. The story bit attached to this art takes into account how Visions more or less work in Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, though I slightly altered some of their properties to make the story here a bit more interesting. It was never stated in Brave Exvius exactly how good of a Vision user you have to be in order to physically experience the events of those who can be summoned.
It was eventually revealed that summoning Visions isn't restricted only to invoking deceased people, so if you can summon Visions of those who are still alive, I imagine you can experience their past also, whether you've met them or not.
With all that said and done, I swear I will protect the small deer boy.
