Yeah seriously, I have no idea why the game is named after the girl who constantly gets herself kidnapped. That's like if Scooby-Doo was called Daphine and Friends or if the Mario games where called the Tales of Princess Peach. Just so misleading and kinda stupid to name your game after the most useless character in your seriesΒ

LoL was not a thing in 86 when the game was released so this isn't really the reason. When you read the lore of the first Zelda game, it's understood why it's named after her because even though the game revolves around Link, the story and history revolve around Zelda. The show, similarly, was about both Zelda and Link but Zelda's character held more weight while Link was just the hero. Nintendo didn't properly predict that this would become one of their most successful franchises nor that they'd make several sequels. During their first sequel, they actually tried to change the name to to having both Link and Zelda in the title, but considering Zelda II was met with much negativity and gamers tend to relate things better when titles stay the same, you can see why they'd go back to their old title
