Why NOT? What's not to love-a soft, furry little animal, with a calm gentle nature-I happen to own over 50 of these lovely creatures, so I know tarantulas! This is a lovely Aphonopelma; I thought it was a male at first, due to the brighter colors, but it is actually a female. I'd love to have her, but I guess you've made a good decision to let her stay in your yard.

And no, JuliusX, these can't kill a dog-they just kill insects and the occasional small rodent or lizard.

Omg thank you so much for the information My mom was just asking me if i could find out what kind of spider this was. WOOHOO

I'm terrified of spiders lol. I got bit by a brown recluse one time and it hurt so badly.

This is when i was pulling whatever formed inside of my arm.

I just watched that video, and that was NOT a Brown Recluse bite, but a wound made by the maggot of a Human Botfly(Dermatobia hominis). That's what you pulled out of that hole in your arm! These used to be very common across the south, especially in TX across to FL, but were nearly eradicated by the use of the pesticide DDT. It's a "Catch 22", though-that pesticide was banned back in the late '60s because of its negative environmental impact, and Botflies have made a comeback, as you discovered the hard way. Brown Recluse bites turn black as tissue dies and becomes gangrenous, and the affected area becomes progressively larger and larger as more and more tissue is destroyed. A lot of other skin lesions are misdiagnosed as "spider bites", which aren't. Foreign bodies under the skin are the most common culprit, nto a spider bite. You just happened to have a really nasty foreign object-a live maggot! You were lucky, though; you found it and removed it before it matured. I've pulled them out from under dogs' skin that were two inches long and as big around as my thumb!

If I only had a PENNY for every zit, pimple, ringworm(yes, ringworm), boil, MRSA infection(that's a nasty you don't want), ingrown hair, Poison Oak, imbedded cactus spine...I could go on and on...that doctors have misdiagnosed as "spider bites", I could fire Donald Trump! Doctors have a habit of labeling every skin infection or lesion that they see as "spider bites". That's almost a medical catch-phrase for "I really don't have a clue what's wrong with you, or don't have time to really find out." Even in states where there are NO verified populations of L. reclusa, like South Carolina, many skin lesions are still diagnosed by doctors as "Brown Recluse" or "spider" bites. Without seeing a spider actually bite you, and being able to verify the species of that spider, any diagnosis of a "spider bite" has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Here is a webpage with photos of REAL Brown Recluse bites and their progession, so you can compare these to the little hole made by the Botfly when she laid her egg in one of your pores or hair follicles, and which the maggot kept open so it could breath. The maggot is actually clearly visable being pulled from your flesh, so I have to wonder how the doctor figured that a freakin' maggot was left there by a spider?
