Description While I never got the chance to actually play more than a couple of these when City of Heroes was still alive, thanks to the amazing work put into the Icon program I can still make costumes to my hearts content. And oh how I do. Went through and thought hm. I know that some of these guys would certainly have made it TO Paragon City (Moraga was there, already, and ARRISA and Remote, Chary, and to a weird extent the Vort was because Arrisa had a halloween costume of him hahah) the fact is that somewhere along the actual canon of Repurposed, Paxton and company go jaunting around the multiverse.

They make it into the Fallout universe (already started a short featuring that - and d'oh forgot to put Aretha in this, but it's them visiting her, not the other way around) and they definitely hit the Matrix up (thus Charybdis not only within Paragon itself, but Charybdis while she's still in the Matrix; and oh yeah omg Clio was an ooooooolddddd katana scrapper already!) and Pandora of Borderlands fame (not the nice one, the shitty one with the maniac wearing someone else's face trying to take it over - Moraga made it to Paragon long before they reached him haha) so... Yeah.

Since this has some obvious future-children types (who are also, in fact, canon to the story but happen long after Repurposed will end) I suppose some introductions are in order. Also, SPOILER ALERT in case you're not wanting to see all the variations on my characters or their offspring/relationships in this universe.

***

Noah the Vortigaunt is ... well, Noah. The crazy 'wisdom-spouting' Vort who I based loosely on the All-Knowing Vort in HL2. I made an alternate to this version, in violet and blue, I might have to take some more screenies in Icon... Oddly though, the costume designer still can't handle non-human bodies (even in npc form, at least not that I've found) so while I would prefer to have used a different body shape on him (like one from the Rikti? or perhaps the Tuatha, both with that nubby little tail of theirs) this one I simulated the odd body form with... well, a volcano on his back. >_> there are no 'hunchback' features! lol!

Mars Walsh is my ballistics expert originally created for a very short-lived Half Life based RPG that some friends from Steam and I were making. She was my first attempt at 'there really aren't enough women in the Half Life game' inserts. She is tiny, and crazy for explosions. And yes, Nohaa is her son. When presented with an alternative to 'growing old and weak', she took every opportunity to have herself cloned. She ... generally makes it to around age 40-ish with them, before they're too beat up to be comfortable any more. And - yes, she of all people *benefited from Icarus*, so instead of having mostly-sublimated Vortal abilities (she does) she has overtly conscious control over them. What does she do? ... She still just uses them to break into Lane's Vortal office. And drink his booze.

Isabella Wong (also actually did make it into the game verrrrry briefly before shutdown, now that I remember, it was right about then we were playing our tabletop superhero game, and the week that Eric our GM decided to put the game setting into Paragon, they announced the shutdown. I was... um... distraught, because I had just found where her apartment was, behind Icon in the north-west corner of Steel Canyon) is the strongest telekinetic that the (ironically named) Paragon program at Armacham-Aperture had in its first generation. She was being groomed as a spy and infiltration expert, and she was the first among the Pantheon to leave, shortly before the Combine showed up.

Raven Lane is the Mystery's daughter - his first, actually, but one who wasn't born until the mid-2030s. Her mother, Rhea Mercer (yes I know the name is familiar, just wait until I actually PLAY Prototype...) was a scientist and singer who lived in Rapture. Yes, that Rapture. Yes, Lane's business deals went bad there, but he couldn't bear the thought of the woman he'd fallen in love with dying at the hands of what would inevitably destroy that city. Having removed Rhea and put her in storage (she is one of the 3 other stasis-vat people seen by Cave in one Interval) there she stayed for ... a very long time. When things start changing (events which have yet to be written and uploaded here) the Mystery opens up those storage units and Rhea has a hard time adjusting. Had he known she was pregnant Lane would have certainly done things *tremendously* different - but he hadn't known. Raven was raised by him and several others, and though she takes after her mother in looks, she definitely has strong Convocation genes. Her Vortal aura is a dark blue color, but with the occasional spark of sky.

Dr. Rachel Cooper is my Aperture Science self-insert. Rachel... oh dear where to start. She is the 2nd female that Lane keeps in his storage room, actually, and it was lucky for her that he did. While she was away on a vacation in Jamaica, in 1979, the facility she was working in - the BATSHITT facility - went from turning on the time-travel device to slamming into the Armacham-Aperture Enrichment Center in 2006. Rae is able to adjust much more easily to the newer if ruined world - though there are a lot of things she has to re-learn, because technology in the 70s hadn't gone nearly as far as it did before the world ended, and she slept through all of that.

Dar'lih Keh-vahh, the light behind the shadow, Light of Redemption to the Mystery. The only thing that the Icon program (and city in general) lacked, was properly curly hair. One of the last things they put out was a Steampunk pack, which did, but ugh, too loopy. Darly is Melissa and Paxton's daughter, always glowing and always curious. Here, she's fit for exploring in a properly armored outfit. While she's healthy (and probably immortal) she doesn't exactly laugh off damage like her mother. Though her typical Vortal color scheme reflects who she's with and what mood she's in, her actual 'signature' color is a greenish aquamarine, more green than the Mystery's, and paler.

Melissa Larrabie, the queen of her hive. My adorable blond mary-sue. Yes, immortal - her regenerative properties mean that she can't really BE killed. Though she's not all that strong, and she was never really trained for combat, Mel has had to live in a very harsh world indeed. But she would easily be able to occupy the attention of those nearby Hound-eyes while the rest of her scouting party gets to safety. Once they've ... well, eaten their fill, she can just regenerate and head back home. Yes, that is in fact what she's had to do on occasion. No, I haven't written that out yet. Her outfit here ... that's a very, very far-future look. Functional and pretty, I think. Mel's aura is a brilliant flashy and busy yellow, like her eyes are also amber colored.

Nohaa Walsh... that's Mars Walsh's son. With Lane. While he *does* have a reasonably strong amount of Vortal power (in a more visible and consciously useful way too) he still takes his mother's name as well as her great love of explosions. Mars, when in one of her new fancy Icarus-powered bodies, was getting tired of Wilson's bullshit ("you will not break me in half you lummox! ARG.") she shamelessly went straight to the source material. ("Frankly, I'm amazed that there weren't more, given.. well." *straightens tie*.) Where Mars's Vortal aura is sub-indigo blue (so dark that you basically can't see it even Vortally) Nohaa's is a rich velvety teal. His eyes are also that color.

Doctor Gordon Freeman, commander of the intergalactic house of pancakes. I was really happy with having the newer costume options to play with, for Gordon. I think years and years ago, someone on the COH forums posted a REALLY fun looking version of him, but it got deleted because LOL COPYRIGHTS. Well, HAHAHA SCREW YOUR COPYRIGHTS NOW! *cough* Can't put a Lambda on that chest piece and have it look good, so I used the other Ring texture. I love it, honestly. OH FRAK I ... >_> forgot someone. might update.

Xkah'shuu-vahh, Paxton Fettel in all his badass glory. I very briefly had a version of him in the live game, but not with this outfit. (Remote actually wore it for quite a while when I was in my Fear phase a couple years back.) This... is his 'returned to glory' look. Wilson, after years of being pissed off that there were no more good tailors anywhere, chose to download all the skills needed to DO that tailoring. God he's so domestic. Paxton is the only person who gets away with saying that directly to his sire's face. Paxton would have been a great Mastermind to play, IF they'd come up with full customization of minions. Obviously, he'd have lots of himself running around. (Once more, actually, the full set of Remote Unit's costumes actually reflected those Replicas that were in the games, from a all-around duty robot to a huge armored dude, just like the Replicas... I love fear.) Paxton's aura ranges from black to ash and from blood red to burning fire orange. His eyes, however, are still a slightly reflective shade of grey-blue, apt to take on whatever is glowing around him. (love the eyes in all these games. so very important.)

Keenan Lane, the Mystery. I fiddled for hours with lots of different costumes (and probably will put them up sometime), including his trademark blue suit and violet tie (Wilson hates that suit, so much that he *replaces* them whenever he can, with black and gold, black and green, red, etc). Given that in Paragon (or more accurately, in Praetoria) some dev really liked the Half Life games - there WAS a 'gman' character: Mister G. He had a plaid grey-blue suit, lol. At any rate, that turquoise glow on his eyes is the Mystery's signature Vortal energy, and it is reflected in his daughter and grand-ish-daughter (what DO you call Darly? his niece? his great-grand-daughter? his *redemption*) as well as others who didn't make it to this list. He's a complicated person. Let's leave it at that.

Geoff Fettel, Paxton's brother and the only person able to withstand their mother Alma's abuses. That is as formal as he gets, by the way, and yes those are chaps under that long coat. He greatly takes after Wilson, physically, though he prefers to keep facial hair rather than hopelessly shave every few hours to keep it at bay... In Repurposed, obviously, it's Geoff that gets together with Alyx over there on the other side of the image. They do, in fact, have at least one kid together, sorry Gordon/Alyx shippers. That's not to be in this universe. While Paxton is away, Geoff takes the mantle of leader, but never quite enjoys the role. As Pointman, Tsah nach mah, the Pathfinder, he is most comfortable. I figured that he and Alyx have way more in common than Gordon would given that Alyx grew up with the guy.

Wilson Carver, the Mystery's clone and father of Paxton and Geoff. He is not a small man. That's what Icarus can do for ya. He is far more of a 'dramatic bastard' than Lane ever was, really. And though he is considerably weaker than the Mystery wanted him to be, he shines in all the best ways - ways which allowed Kallah-vahh's war to finally come to an end. And though he's far from immortal, killing him is very, very difficult. At some point, he simply chose to stop aging (rather like Nohaa does) and lasts well into a couple centuries without even batting an eye. After all, in this brave new world of theirs... Someone has to be a good cook and tailor...

Moraga Vasquez - the Paragon version of him cleans up really nicely. Except those boots. Man, what the hell is with those boots. Wilson made you some *nice* ones. But nooo, you gotta have those things clompin around. Moraga has such issues. This is not his 'first' visit to an alternate world, and probably won't be his last. He's actually not the "original" Moraga. In fact, he's not even the SECOND Moraga (who lives alternately in Twoarth's Carramba High as a teacher and on Zekira as ... well, whatever it is he does there). This is a copy of a copy. Of all the people on this list, this version of Moraga would be the angstiest. I'd made him in Paragon shortly before the end of days, wearing a more normal version of his outfit - and, some gorgeous others, which he's got on his own pages in here somewhere.

Now, Charybdis (or Ch4r...crap I even spelled it wrong on that page... dammit) had existed in Paragon for a LONG ass time. She was straight from the Matrix, and had a couple great looking outfits that unfortunately I had to recreate since the last time I'd played her I think was before you could even SAVE them... She was an ... um... rad/emp def? something like that, didn't get very far with her (level 11 tapped out at the end, and retired in the Matrix room). Still, she would totally fit in with this misfit bunch. She has a 'human form' which is canon for her version of the Matrix too, even though she IS a program. She had a body grown for her.

Clio Freemind is also from the Matrix, though she's human and pod-born. Another very VERY old City character, from before dual blades even existed, she was a katana scrapper. I managed to recreate a couple of her actually-drawn costumes in Icon though, this is not among those, this is her 'you will look gorgeous in this trust me' outfit.

Arrisa is detailed elsewhere - she's my first blaster to 50. As a product of GLaDOS's mockery and mixing the combat androids with human influences, ARRISA is such the fun looking scary ass plastic-faced monster. Also, yes, she is that tall. However that's her 'formal outfit' too, her page shows the rest of her costumes.

Virva Novac... she's technically Convocation. Technically. In fact, she IS another of the Mystery's kin folk. One of only three who 'follow his lead' and become Human for a while. I see her as being the kind of curious, odd biddy that you'd get exploring new worlds and accidentally irradiating the area with her energies until someone tells her to tone it down. Her energy signature is a vivid green, though kinda hard to see in the aura there. I can't remember the names I came up with for my other two like this (one male, one female). Of them, she looks the oldest.

R3M073 UNi7 is my first Brute to 50 in City. Though he's complete with the background set in Praetoria, he did become a hero and hit blueside exclusively. However, his penchant for using 'remote bodies' (hence the name) made him appropriate for use around the Convocation. High tech - he'd also have been at home at Armacham. Good thing he wasn't there... O.o

Alyx Vance, David Hoyle, and Barney Calhoun - obviously, my attempts at putting them into the character generator. ... Mostly I ran out of ROOM on this darn picture. Only Hoyle is 'unique', in that I didn't have any real images to go on for him. Alyx and Barney I think I did a pretty good job of, like with Gordon. But since only Hoyle is technically speaking Vortal at all (and yes, oh yes he is) he didn't really warrant a spot. He does, however, live with clones and the like, well into ... well, a LONG time. It was his clone storage unit that triggered Mars to even want to do the same thing. But again... that's not written yet.

.... GOD WHY DO I DO THESE THINGS. This took so long. And there are still characters missing. (CHELL I AM LOOKING AT YOU.)

I LOVE ICON. So much. It's not playing the game, but hey I *love* playing dress up dolls.

Well, if you still have the game files on your rig (I have like... 3 full installs across 2 hard drives lol) you can still use the game since it's all client sided for Icon. (If you don't have the game files, you can still get them, see below.)

Go to the Titan forums, www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.p…

And find I think it's in the "Multimedia" section. Icon is a program written to enable you to open up the character creator, and load maps to wander them. It's a bit bittersweet, obviously, because there are no NPCs or anything 'alive' (you can still spawn them I think, though it's more people who know how to demo edit that make those incredible videos you see now and then).

They have *links* to the I24 beta client which is needed for it if you don't have the test-server stuff in addition to your regular install. (I always did, I loved hitting the test server, so you could explore new stuff and help bug report things... sigh.)

As for this image, I just basically made each one of them in the generator, took tons of screenshots of them in their stock poses, and edited out the backgrounds, layered them into this one piece. took for freaking ever lol.

I lost it all from my old rig, hopefully I can great a Hero using the costumes there and hope the ones I were using are still there. I do have screenshots of my old character but that is about it. I am downloading all the bits I need to see if I can get the character creation up. Want to bring my Heroine Qualina back.Β

Everything, including if you use the NPC mode, all the NPC stuff that they can get into the maker. Not all of those (like certain creature parts and some normal npcs you'd see on the street) are available, but everything that HAS been in the game, is available. It's not like it's a for-sale thing any more, it's just code now. So there's an option to 'hide paid items', which I don't even know why it's there any more. It's not based on what your account might have had on it, it's just the raw game code.

Yuss!

The npc mode costumes have soooo much potential. Somewhere in my gallery I put up a picture of a guy named Thomas Page, here he is
lethe-gray.deviantart.com/art/…

With the sky raider type jump pack and stuff. He just didn't look good enough with JUST the normal player character parts!

And somewhere, you might find a replacement texture for that annoyingly complicated background it gives. I can't remember which texture to replace, I just wind up erasing and cleaning up manually, but I think there's a way to put just a plain white/black background in.

You do them for the same reason I keep writing my fanfic that no one will read save Β a couple of people, because you have noisy muses that want their stories told!

lol that is so very true. Hell a friend just posted some 'genetic legacy breeding rounds' that... omg of course I'll do, because I breed my characters already. >_> the stories, they write themselves. Coupe of the randomly assigned pairs, omg.

Snow-Jackal In reply to lethe-gray [2013-10-19 09:38:00 +0000 UTC]

I do that as is with my Sims of them. Breed them all over the place or say they're 'genetically fused clones' or have aliens abduct them or various things like that just to see what sort of mayhem happens!

I loved having more control over the faces and appearances in Sims 2, but omg it was so easy to really, really screw up their offspring. What you think is a little forehead crease turns into a deep dent in the next generation.

... And not to worry - my friend just posted a 'genetic mashup' template and I've been playing with THAT too, omg lol such crack OC pairings it's hilarious...

Well with slider mods that increase the percentage of the slide X 2 or 3 or whatever and some extra sliders, you can make some pretty nice faces now. Β furryjackal.tumblr.com/ Thomas has a few aliens in his legacy with some really wild face genetics. It's still not as extreme as TS2 was, but the slider increasers do make a big difference. I'm sort of hoping that with TS4 we'll get that control of really exotic faces right out of the box again. Although, for what it's worth, I don't have a lot of sliders for my humans. It's my horses and dogs that fill the majority of my extra sliders so I can get the more exotic Arabians, little stout/short legged Corgis, etc.

So are you going to post these things somewhere?

lethe-gray In reply to Snow-Jackal [2013-10-19 20:51:05 +0000 UTC]

My new bred people, oh yes. they will come up as soon as I'm finished with the next gen, actually. It's a 4 generation thing.

I soooo don't want to have to re-buy sims stuff. I discovered that I'd ruined my sims 2 neighborhoods when my housemate got me two expansions that I hadn't had... Turned out that they were prior-releases (I only had pets at the time) and they completely, totally broke everything. All the characters - their names, personalities, etc, they were all *wrong*, like they'd been overwritten entirely by university and night life.

Somewhere in my gallery I have the Repurposed sims, some of whom are echoed in this (convocation) one.

Ughs! I know with TS3 they made that much less a thing 'installing in order'. I'm hoping TS4 they continue with that thread. TS1 was the worst with that whole craziness.

That's so sad. I hate when I lose my Sims for various reasons like that.
