I thought it was 'meh'. Sure, some tight-ass whiny cunt fans of Batman may think of the Riddler in another way, but this was a kid's film. Do you think kids would have honestly gave two-shits about a clever, exposed and thorough backstory like the Riddler's, especially if they're American kids?
