Description Listened to Cabin Pressure on Radio 4 today, and this scene in particular caught my eye... well, my ear... well, oh you know what I mean. Martin has accused the passenger of the airline of stealing, when, really it could be any of the airline:

Douglas: Any progress?
Martin: I don't think he has it.
Douglas: How can you tell?
Martin: Pretty certain. But... um... it’s just impossible. He didn’t take it, I didn’t take it, you couldn’t have taken it, and there’s no-one else except Arthur, so how ... oh!
Douglas: You're not thinking...
Martin: Well, I know it seems crazy, but...
Douglas: Arthur?!
Martin: I know! But the thing is, we’ve taken away all the things that can possibly have happened, so I suppose the only thing that’s left, even though it seems really weird, must be the thing that did happen, in fact.
Douglas: Snappily put.

It's too... brilliant.

John Finnemore, you cheeky man. Giving Benedict Cumberbatch a Sherlock reference? Cleeeever.

I'm aware that neither of these cartoons look like who they're supposed to be, and little Sherlock's hair is inexplicably... nothing like Sherlock's hair.

Captain Martin Crieff (as portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch) - (c) BBC
Sherlock Holmes - (c) Sir. A. Conan Doyle

Anyway, hope you like it, and thanks for viewing!

There's a quote from John Finnemore's blog about the "sly" Sherlock references in this episode:
Benedict was an incredibly good sport about it all, especially given the audience was full of Sherlock fans. Though he did give me quite a look at the first read-through when we got to 'Wow, Skip! You're just like Miss Marple!'
That makes me smile every time I read it. XD
Thanks!

That's one of my favourite lines of the episode:
"Wow, Skip! You're just like... Miss Marple!"

Actually, when I heard that, I squealed and was all like "Noes! He's Sherlock Holmes!!!" And I made myself laugh. So sad...but so awesome. I think it's cool that John wrote the show too.

(That way he gets the best lines. It's not fair.)

I read about the episode on John Finnemore's blog, and he said "Benedict was an incredibly good sport about it all, especially given the audience was full of Sherlock fans. Though he did give me quite a look at the first read-through when we got to 'Wow, Skip! You're just like Miss Marple!'"

His blog's here, if you want to have a peek. It's genius. [link]

Oh, and four more words: 'John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme.'
Youtube it. You will not be disappointed.

Oh, that's brilliant! I loved that episode. Personal favorite. I was laughing so hard the entire time, I had to pause a few times to catch my breath - or I altogether (pardon the meme) fell off my seat laughing.

How come I have never heard of him before? (currently listening to JFSP)

I rather loved that episode. I also loved 'Qikiqtarjuaq'. AND THE POLAR BEARS.

I don't know how I managed before listening to John Finnemore's work.

"Can I be an expert? I'll do a lecture on polar bears."

Yes, Arthur, you do that, while Martin contemplates why he puts up with you and the others and Douglas asks you why, condescendingly.

/typical ep of Cabin Pressure

He's awesome!!

Arthur's reaction to the words 'Polar bear' is one of my favourite Cabin Pressure moments EVAR.

That, and when he meets Hester in 'Cremona':
"Hello. I am Arthur."
"What."
"Er... I am Arthur?"
"King of the Britons?"
"Steward of the aeroplane."

And BEAR in mind...pfft. Arthur. You silly thing. (It's only got a polar bear on the cover.)

It was...it was a Monty Python reference...oh. I didn't even realize until right now. Thank you. lol.

I love brilliant old comedy legends.
Mr. Bean is another long-loved British love of mine.

It's too bad they're old though. I mean, Eric Idle, John Cleese, Graham's dead :c, Palin, the Terrys...sigh. Still awesome, but not as popular anymore.
Mr. Bean...so many memories. I was like a kid, and I didn't understand a word of what anyone said. But I absolutely loved Mr. Bean. And then I saw Rowan Atkinson do other stuff when I joined the internet (as I put it XD) and remembered how awesome he is. Shame I should forget.

Then there's the brilliance of Blackadder and Fawlty Towers. Two more Britih comedy goldmines.
I remember taping all of the Mr. Bean sketches when they aired on TV. xD

That's dedication right there.

OH MY GOD YES. YES I HAVE SEEN THIS. I stumbled upon this a while ago and nearly squealed. Like, aloud, not in internet speak. Cleese + Atkinson = major rofl factor.

I would definitely DEFINITELY recommend Blackadder and Fawlty Towers. Blackadder is with Rowan Atkinson and Falwty Towers is with John Cleese. You will not be disappointed.

"I think everybody knows now..."
"Does anyone know where is the lid?"
"Hugh, the lid is right here, it was behind the sofa!"

Have some Hugh Laurie and Benedict Cumberbatch IN THE SAME SHOW. On the house. [link]

LetsSaveTheUniverse In reply to CelieHardy [2011-08-31 19:14:03 +0000 UTC]

It was an amazing moment.
John Finnemore is a true genius.

And when Arthur says "Wow, Skip! You're just like... Miss Marple!" - that just made the whole episode fantastic for me.

Notice how I'm trying very hard to use any other adjective other than 'brilliant'... >w<

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CelieHardy In reply to LetsSaveTheUniverse [2011-08-31 19:26:39 +0000 UTC]

Truly amazing indeed !
Oh, yes he is ;D

I was expecting an other character... X'D But Miss Marple makes me laugh soooo hard ! I think that's one of my favorite episode, with Qikiqtarjuaq (Polar bears and fake French accent... As a French girl, I thought it was just hilarious. And then I thought : Oh my God. I hope I'm not talking like this.) and Limerick ("or as we say in Limerick..." ^^)

Yeah, I noticed XD That's very hard though, when you've heard Cabin Pressure

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LetsSaveTheUniverse In reply to CelieHardy [2011-08-31 20:04:00 +0000 UTC]

"Wow! Now Douglas is like Miss Marple!"
"No, I'm Miss Marple!"

Qikiqtarjuak is definitely one of my favourite episodes, along with 'Limerick' (And Arthur's 20 Questions - "Is it bigger than a sheep?" - "Look at the size of the box, Arthur." - "Oh, right. Is it bigger than the box?" - "Is it bigger than the box it's in. . . . No, actually.")
But I also love 'Ottery St. Mary' - "Ooh! Now do 'Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machine'!" There are so many brilliant episodes.

But I also say 'fantastic' a lot because of Doctor Who...
So most of the time, I'll either say 'Fantastic' or 'Brilliant'. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CelieHardy In reply to LetsSaveTheUniverse [2011-08-31 20:24:37 +0000 UTC]

I was trying to imagine Benedict Cumberbatch in Miss Marple.
I just couldn't ! X)

Oh, yeah ! The box ! That was so funny ^^
Ottery St Mary is great too ! I love the otters' problem : "No otters in the flight deck !" Poor Martin (... that gives me an idea...)

Indeed ! Doctor Who is brilliant. Cabin Pressure is amazing. Sherlock is fantastic. (wait. I think John says that also. Damn !)
