Another drawing recommendation by one of my mates! Phantom Pain is actually the only MGS I have played.This must be the most tone-deaf game I have ever played. First theres weird fire man and psychic lil girl summoning fire whales and unicorns, then you are in Afghanistan saving prisoners of war... Really breaks the immersion with all the wacky shit.
Still a fun game to play, though

You might like the 3rd game with it's 70's spy movie feel. It's definitely dramatic and talky, but not quite as zany as the later ones. One thing I'll Kojima, for every cleavage shot, there's a close up of Snake's ass to match.

I actually tried this game because it was the only MGS that seemed to have gameplay I'd like.
I'm not really bothered by the wacky tone-shifts, since the gameplay is so good. Being able to get immersed would be just icing on a good game cake

The original Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge on NES are the only Metal Gear games I've ever really got any kind of enjoyment out of... Though some of the dumb stuff in the "Solid" series is kinda funny, like Quiet here!!!

Yeah, it's really weird how the game mostly plays as a serious sneaking and infiltrating military story, then suddenly theres some Adam West style wackiness happening in cutscenes and boss fights.
At least I got used to Quiet, since she actually brings some of that wackiness in the gameplay, being your buddy and all. They should do that more often, wouldn't make the tone shifts so jarring.

Eeehhh... it becomes less and less immersion breaking when you play more of the games and you star to realize you are in a crazy scfi super hero magic world but you just happen to be a spy without super powers XD you eventually get used to it.

Yeah, I think you are right. I haven't played any other MGS game, so I probably would eventually get used to it.
I'd still like to see the wackiness implemented to the gameplay, not just bosses and cutscenes. Throw in some superpowered goons and weird weaponry for the player to use, then there wouldn't be such a jarring tone shifts. Just go all wacky.
