Description
NOTE: If you need a little refresher to remember everyone involved here, check out: Lexi-Verse Year One ReviewThe room was silent as the glowing magical patterns around Alexis's hands faded out of existence, everyone waiting to hear what her spell would reveal.
"She's alive," the witch finally spoke, handing the little inactive robot back to Sharpshooter. "And I can reach her."
"You say that we need an anchor for each in order to return," Tessa resumed her conversation with the Myzek. "Would it be possible to have one person serve as an anchor for two others? You want this to succeed as much as we do, I feel, so why not increase the odds of your sorceress returning?"
"No, you cannot send four," the Myzek repeated, and the magical being was beginning to sound exasperated. She had been round and round with it, trying to find a loophole. "Three must remain here to serve as anchors for the three who travel. I will serve as the same for the fourth, should you find her."
"Can you imagine what it must feel like?" Tanzanite whispered loudly. "I've got to touch it."
"Then I will send three and remain as an anchor myself," Alexis responded, narrowing her eyes. "If you won't let me access my real power while I'm there, I'd be more of a liability than an aid."
"I dinnae think you should touch it," Dinnie actually whispered. "Who knows what might happen?"
"Even you, a babe lost in the magical woods, must know how much more difficult it is to send others rather than bring them," the Myzek practically hissed.
"I know!" Tanzanite whisper-yelled. "That's the point. Who knows what might happen?"
"That means two of us can accompany Alexis," Tessa cut in. "What is involved for the three of us who will stay behind?"
"Please, Chri-" Dinnie began, and then quickly cut herself off. "Tanz, thess is serious."
"In return for allowing this expedition, I require that the three who remain agree to obey me unconditionally until Alexis returns," the Myzek seemed to pulse with excitement as it spoke.
"And will you guarantee that we will not come to any harm in the process?" Tessa asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I promise that I will not harm any of you," the magical creature answered flatly.
"I know it's serious!" Tanzanite took a step toward the Myzek. "I might seriously never get a chance to touch a magic puffball again!"
"The Myzek cannot lie, but it is not above clever wordplay," Alexis offered. "For example, he cannot actually do much of anything himself, so that promise is little more than empty air. But that definitely does not mean he cannot cause harm."
"Do you promise that you will not use our agreement to follow your orders to make us harm ourselves or one another?" Tessa asked the question carefully.
"No, I will make no such promise," it answered immediately.
"And if we refuse any of your orders?" Tessa raised an eyebrow.
"Then I will end the spell immediately," the Myzek pulsed once more, "and the travelers will return, whether or not their mission is complete."
"And if they return, then what?" Tessa continued her questioning.
"Upon the return of Alexis, regardless of the circumstances," the Myzek answered, "then our bargain will be at an end, and those who stay behind are free to go."
Tessa lowered her eyes, pondering the situation. She trusted Alexis, but she had already seen plenty to know that she could not trust the Myzek. She was about to look back up and resume her questioning when the room suddenly glowed bright white.
"Aww!" Tanzanite called out. "No fun!"
The purple-haired heroine was held poised in the air, one of Dinnie's powerful hands holding her waist. The Myzek glowed bright white, Tanzanite's gloved finger poised less than an inch from its form.
"Tanzanite, is it?" Alexis sighed. "Please, we're trying to figure this out. Maybe you should let the grown-ups work?"
"Hey, I don't know how you usually do things here at Waverly Place," Tanzanite sneered, "but this is just too boring."
"I just learned that your friend is still alive!" Alexis snapped angrily. "How is tha-"
"I already knew that," Tanzanite cut her off.
"How could you have possibly known?" Alexis raised an eyebrow.
"I knew," the purple heroine hissed, "because she had to be alive. If she was in real danger, my gem would have taken me to her."
"And yet here you are asking me for help!" the sorceress laughed. "Maybe if you-"
"Maybe if I what?" Tanzanite spun out of Dinnie's grasp and took a step toward the witch. "Maybe if I sat around trying to bargain with a cotton candy fart, I could waste time just like you?"
"Bargaining with," Alexis paused for a moment, and it looked to Tessa like she was trying to hold back a smile, "IT is the only way to reach your friend!"
"Yeah, and it knows it," Tanzanite shrugged, then turned her attention to the Myzek. "Hey sprinkles, I'm going to make this really easy. There's no fucking way I'm leaving my friends behind if you won't promise to keep them safe. So if you won't, we can stop talking about all of this right now and I'll keep looking for another way to save Tinker."
"I will promise nothing more than that I will endeavor to keep them alive," the Myzek answered.
"So, that's that," Tanzanite sighed. "There's nothing else to talk about."
"You can't mean we'll just give up like that," Sharpshooter broke in out of a private conversation he was having with Jennifer. "We don't have any other options."
"Oh no, we're still going," Tanzanite shrugged.
"But you said-" Sharpshooter began.
"Yeah, I told Fifty Shades of Purple that so I could cut through the stupid negotiations shit," the purple heroine shook her head. "Now we know where we stand, so we can get this Magic Express going."
"We still have to figure out who is going," Tessa cut in.
"No. We don't," Tanzanite scoffed. "That's obvious."
"Obvious?" Dinnie narrowed her eyes.
"Alexis is going because we can't do this without her," Tanzanite continued, raising an eyebrow to the sorceress. "And I can tell you're not going to leave us high and dry, right?"
There was only a moment of hesitation before the sorceress responded with a nod.
"I haven't known you long, Tessa, but you're already talking like you're willing to help," Tanzanite turned to face Tessa. "So you can be the anchor for Miss Sexy Witch Costume Size XXS. That work for you?"
"Yeah," Tessa answered softly.
"Sharpshooter and Jennifer have already been whispering over there and saying their goodbyes," Tanzanite let out a sigh. "She's going to stay because Tinker saved her ass. He's coming with me because he's, like, really a hero and stuff."
"Tanzanite, I-" Sharpshooter began, wide-eyed.
"Don't even say it, shitshooter. I am already on the verge of fucking crying right now," Tanzanite cut him off sharply and then gestured to the whole room. "And, yes, I'm going because fuckallofyouIwillburnthisplacetothegroundifyoutrytostopme."
Tessa was still processing Tanzanite's plan when the purple heroine spun to face Dinnie, who looked down with wide eyes above her mask.
"And I'm going to ask you to be my anchor," Tanzanite said, her voice taking on a far softer tone. "Because you're tough enough to take whatever happens back here while I'm gone. But I totally understand if you don't or won't or can't or any of that. I love you. You're amazing. And I know this is too much to ask too soon, but I'm desperate."
When Tanzanite finished, the room was completely silent. With a puzzled look on her face, the purple heroine slowly surveyed the room.
"What?" she asked. "Did you think I wasn't paying attention?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, we've got a plan now (or at least Tanzanite thinks so). I'm not sure which would be worse... getting left behind to do whatever the Myzek commands or zooming off into space with a nearly-powerless sorceress. And in the next installment we'll see if anyone disagrees with Tanz's breakdown.
It was really fun to dive back into these characters and to experience them in new ways, too!
And wow did this image try to kill my computer! It didn't seem more involved than some of the others I've made in the past but this thing definitely disagreed! It crashed twice before I was able to get it to work. So it's a little bit imperfect in places, but it exists as the very cutting edge of my meager machine!
Dinnie is the wonderful creation of and is used here with permission and love. is basically Tessa Tate, and she's happy to be here too!
THIS is the ongoing continuation of my massive Lexi-Verse storyline!

I'm wondering what happens if they find Villainelf on that ship as well; she could easily be suffering the same torments as Tinker (I don't know if this has allowed the Counsellor to communicate with the aliens, but even if it has, I have a hard time picturing him asking for her release instead of something of more benefit to him).

You will definitely get the answers to those questions! The little "rookie elf" was indeed swept up with Tinker!

I'm glad to have you still along for the ride. I am really excited about the future installments of this story! The whole thing has been in my head for so long that it's amazing to be actually putting together the final pieces of this series!

I know exactly where you are. I have a few stories going on now. Some I started only recently. And there's times when I have the urge to write for all of them in the same day. Just don't have the time for all in one day. So I do a couple stories one day, a couple others the next, and so on.

There is so much I love about Part 2!
The image really conveys so much of what's going on in the story. I love Tanzanite's balletic movement to touch the Myzek. I'm also glad that Dinnie held her back because who knows what catastrophic effect touching it could have caused?!?
The story had a LOL moment for me with the Waverly Place reference. I really love cultural references like that (especially when I actually recognize and understand them ) But what really shined here was Tanzanite. She adds humor to the situation with her almost ADHD-type attitude, but, when push comes to shove, she takes charge and is decisive. Her love for Tinker is also driving it all so you can feel her anguish at not having been there when the aliens took her (even though there's nothing to say that Tanzanite being there would have led to a different end result for Tinker).
The Myzek . . . he may have met his match in Tessa

I'm so glad that Tanzanite's love for Tinker showed through. It's really tearing her up that she wasn't there.
With her best friend's life on the line, I wanted her to really shine in this moment... but in her own way, of course.
If you look back on the series, she really is exceptionally quick on her feet when she can stay focused on the problem at hand!

And the best way to get her to focus is to annoy her

I especially liked Tanzanite's insistence that Tinker has to be ok because otherwise the gem would have taken Tanzanite to the ship.

Unless when The Counselor had Sharpshooter shoot at the gem, it altered/damaged the gem's powers vis-a-vis Tanzanite?

I wasn't thinking in terms of whether it would have (though I have a long-winded theory about that), but the characteration of Tanzanite.

Haha! Tanzanite roasted the room good. (I wonder if that's what Sharpshooter and Jennifer were actually talking about).
"The Myzek cannot lie, but it is not above clever wordplay," Alexis offered.
Yeah, I was just thinking that it hadn't really answered me. And now I have to obey every order from it for an indefinite period... oh, joy. But I can't bail, not with what's at stake.

hehe. It was an important moment for her. It took me a while to write, because it was tricky to try and imagine how she would handle such a situation!
And sorry, but yeah, you really aren't being left behind in a great situation. But hang in there!

This is the first time she's had to decide who gets put at risk and how; not something she'd take lightly.
