What I think? I think cats change life, in all the ways you describe, and a zillion other little wonderful details. And I write those words with my Rosalie, half on my knees, half on myn keyboard! But as you said, nothing stays "yours" once you have a cat...

one on your stomach
(plus the dog accross your legs or else right next to you

My cat's are sitting outside the shower cabinet waiting for me to get out so they can "clean" the shower after me. The water in their bowl is not even close to taste as good as my dirty and soapy showerwater

Cats are such proud animals, they walk in, take over your life, and in fact, although you may think you tame them, they tame you. They tame you, and then they train you so that you feed them at the smalles miaou, let them out almost instantly, and feel supremely pleased when they deign to permit you to stroke them for more than 10 seconds...
and we call them our pets!
